No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) please dont plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailers safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

Covid is still going to be there in the 3 or 4 weeks between pre orders and whenever they're sending out discs. I think this is just an excuse for Sony to be lazy with their shipping.

People aren't (or at least shouldn't) going to be lining up outside of stores for several hours in 3-4 weeks. Not sure why you're talking about discs.

It has been known for a while that you needed to preorder online to get one at launch.

I think this was a pretty unanimous decision overall really. Online preorders went so quick and they'll want to get those done asap. Doubt there will be many launch buyers who don't know how to use the internet.

It might suck for these apparent grandmas who buy their grandkids consoles for Christmas that I constantly hear about though.

I'm explaining. You asked a question I answer but then you are going to throw out petty insults. It's up to the company to provide many ways for the customer to get their product. We're still deep in a pandemic. The PS5 is going to be a hot item when it launches. The stores need to take precautions to protect its staff and the customers, to prevent a deluge of buyers swarming into a sometimes-cramped store and spreading COVID-19 even more.

Again, they are making the smart choice. Your slight inconvenience is worth the safety of the people at large.

The only time that is the case for a console at launch is if it is flopping.

Have you guys never paid attention to a console launch before? You were never able to simply walk into a store and get one on release day unless you were lucky.

Not to mention it could hardly be called an inconvenience. Without a preorder, this is probably a better way to try to get one anyway. I know I'd rather sit home hitting refresh than sitting out in the cold in line for hours.
