68 million people are not voting for Trump because of policy. Democrats didn't lose House seats and fail to flip Senate seats because of policy. It's because they're Democrats and the very concept of being a Democrat is seen as un-American by half of the voting population.

There's a fear of white Americans losing control of society to minorities. There's a fear of society becoming "weaker" and more feminized. These fears are what drive the support for Trump, because he "tells it like it is" and shits all over the people who Republicans see as threatening their current place in society. They would never be caught dead identifying as or voting for a Democrat.

I don't know what Democrats can do to expand their base, but they need to stop trying to reach across the aisle. It doesn't work.

That what I said. The democrats need to stop wasting time on moderate republicans and start focusing on actually getting liberals and especially younger people to actually go vote.

Yeah.

Not sure how you court people who support a man who admits sexual assault, openly mocks the disabled, none white or females, who openly lies and uses fascist rhetoric and so on. They are happy to support a terrible human being and democrats changing their stances to appease them won't draw them away it will just turn people off democrats.

They're former Republicans tbf...now they're independents. You look at the margins, the independent swing, and it seems plausible to me. I mean he's running even with white people in arizona! He's ahead with independents pretty big, when Clinton lost them. He did also get marginally more gop votes while Trump did not, so he decreased the margin by a hair there at least.

It's not like a slam dunk or anything, I'm open to other theories and explanations.

I genuinely think its the language and rhetoric Democrats use that is a huge turnoff to moderate conservatives. There are plenty of people who are simply willing to double down and continue voting republican because theyre continually insulted and assumed to be racist, homophobic, and sexist by the left simply for voting republican in the past. You cant keep insulting people for years and suddenly expect them to come to your side.

The margins he's getting those votes by are still razor-thin. Without Trump's extreme mismanagement of Covid and the economic fallout it's questionable whether that'd still be the case.

Plus the increased hate for Clinton is perfectly explained by 1) her being a woman, and 2) her campaign going much harder than Biden's in centering minorities and inclusiveness.

I'm not convinced that hurt Trump much. His net favorables fell early on but they recovered when the economy started to. I did expect it to hurt him more, but I dunno how much Biden benefited.

Oh yeah man I agree. My opinion is that trying to center minorites turns off white conservatives too much for it to be a viable strategy in most of flyover country. Like you can let 15-20% or more of non-white voters go if you can pick up 10% of whites. Pretty depressing

I agree it didn't benefit him much, but whatever benefit there was (from either Trump's mishandling of Covid/the economy or any of Trump's other deficiencies) was enough to put him over in some key states.

Yeah they're too inextricably linked to be studied independently. The sexism directly fed into the intensity of the hits on her image and vice versa.

The Republicans are at the table and ready to work with Democrats if they would just be willing to meet them halfway. They aren't asking for much. Declare any economic policies left of Reagan to be radical communism. Recognize abortion as murder. Allow discrimination against anyone that may offend Christian beliefs. Just a few little sacrifices like that. The needs of the country outweigh the needs of millions of people in the country.

Trump choked in Arizona because of McCain insults and the Arpaio pardon. Also his racist ass base likely didn't appreciate his outreach to Cubans in Florida.
