It is true that you can actually make an impact at this level (I mean, depending on how big your city, county, etc is) but local politics attracts the most petty, narcissistic, clique-ish types of people. Which I mean I guess that makes sense, right? But still, it's not very fun getting to know and talking to these people

Also might be worth hitting up ballotpedia. They have less info on municipal races than state house races, especially outside big cities, but still
