We probably should have gone with someone a bit more progressive than Mr. Reach-Across-the-Aisle on the Democrat side. We'll maybe get back to "normal" (Obama years) before ignorant Americans ruin it again by electing some Christian nutcase that wants to suppress everyone who isn't like them. The GOP already owns our justice system for the next 40-50 years. There is very little to be excited about when Trump loses.

You're underestimating how short term the American publics' memory is. It only took ~12years for Bush jr's to go from war criminal that doesn't care about black people to Ellen's fun friend that paints pretty pictures.

Depending on where the party goes after Trump, they may just embrace the fascist wing of the party and go full crazy. Neocons are gonna put up a bit of a fight but the path forward is them moving more to the right, especially since they've basically locked up the judiciary for the next generation.

Carter election was a huge special case, not to mention Carter was relatively a political outsider whose ascension in the primary somewhat baffled the party

I thought she received pretty large spread condemnation for this, then followed up with repeated stories about how she's a shitty/abusive person.

carter was "too left" for the independent voters.

the problem is insisting that we need to go for a strong progressive candidate in the biggest popularity contest in the country before voting them into the legislature.

Carter was very "humanitarian" but was almost aggressively fiscally conservative, he came into the white house after fixing budgetary issues in Georgia expecting that he could just 'streamline' the US budget or something and would get really upset when his cabinet told him they couldn't improve programs without spending more. He didn't like spending.

Iranian revolution is what cost Carter the election, Reagan played it devilishly well. Well and of course dealing with stagflation

Have you seen the world? It's been awful for 4000 years. People are going to continue to suffer and die, but hey at least we brought fucking JOE BIDEN back to the White House! The women and LGBT communities made second class citizens by the Supreme Court will be so happy that we have an adult back in the White House. If we're really nice to the hateful bigots, maybe they'll compromise and change their ways in a few generations! The millions getting sick or dying from lack of affordable healthcare will be so happy to continue flailing.

Yet Joe Biden and whatever establishment pick that comes after him will be called radical communists that want to oppress Christianity, and millions of jackasses that struggled through high school will vote for some decidedly non-Christian pseudo-fascist because they get scared about "the gays" getting them before they do the opposite.

The GOP will never win election again. Once Trump loses on Tuesday the Republicans will try to save face and start condemning Trump en masse publically, but it won't save them.

Their party has been hijacked by Trump and his radical followers. Trump Jr will try to run probably if he manages to not get arrested (and the rest of his family) once Daddy isn't able to protect him. There is no longer a Republican party. It's over.

For the people too self-centered or unempathetic to care. One side's voters don't care about others and the other side's only care during the elections when it's cool to care

Yep. People forget this.

He and Tip O'Neil argued quite a bit on this sort of thing. Specifically with regards to universal healthcare. O'Neil wanted to go forward with it but Carter wouldn't play ball

Also a lot of conservative Boomers and Gen Xers are dying right now from old age. People between ages 18-40 are mostly Liberal in their beliefs and they're just going to keep becoming more and more the majority group in the US

The two parties have been trading off power for nearly 200 years. It doesn't matter whether it's boomers, gen x, whatever... You would have to be incredibly naive to think that Republicans won't eventually hold the presidency again or that young liberals won't ever turn conservative and the entire country is just going to shift hard left.

The GOP needs to shift back towards center or it can be rendered unviable by the simple and popular plan of increasing voter accessibilty. They're currently too far right to capture even the conservative centrist vote.

Which is why they are rigging the courts and gerrymandering the fuck out of the legislatures at state levels.
