Gotten about two hours in
- my first recruit is a Polish guy whose voice acting seems to come from a different, cheerier game than everyone he interacts with
- photo mode seems real good, on par with the options in AC Origins and Odyssey.
- stealth options are once again very cool, but I nevertheless have gotten into stupid fights and like a 6 minute police chase while trying to deliver a contraband package. Running over pedestrians seems a bit at odds with the DedSec ethos, gotta say.
- the map is covered in fog. Motherfuckers, it's London in the 21st century, it's not like the location of roads is a big mystery.

From what I've read, it's the One X, and only on a specific mission. I'll try to avoid it until there's a patch, which they've said will be coming tomorrow.

Just based on the trailers it does seem like there's a bigger emphasis on shooting and blowing up stuff.

The radio is real clunky on a lot of levels. Switching between stations seems unreliable, and they aren't labeled by genre the way they were in 2; you're just given the title of the current song popping up above the minimap. And it's really quiet. Also, at least early on, you can't listen to music out of the car like you could with the media player in 2.

I never played 1, but I don't think so.

I've done a couple recruitment missions now. First had me sneaking into a gang hideout area to steal a car, which was fun. That got me this guy Justin Mukharjee, born in Bangladesh, who is a lot more convincing than my first character's Borat ass.

Photo mode's gonna be a lot of fun; I assume there's gonna be a way like with AC to access my photos from their site, but haven't found it yet:
https://i.imgur.com/Ogc4ObE.jpg

I'm playing with permadeath on, but it doesn't kick in until you reach a certain mission, presumably to prevent you from getting wiped and having to start from the beginning a bunch.

I don't think it's reinventing the wheel in terms of mission structure; you're gonna have to make your own fun via the mechanics available.

Is there any word if I started the PS4 version, and then played the free PS5 upgrade in late November would my save automatically convert or would I have to restart from scratch?

I have the game now but I sure as shit don't wanna restart it if I play it for a month.

A little story of the game's systems coming into play: I had targeted a character named Helen Dey for recruitment, but didn't actually speak to her. Later on, the game's UI alerted me to the fact that a passing character was Helen's cousin, Rebekah. I spoke to her, setting up the opportunity to complete her recruitment mission. Instead, I checked out Helen's profile, and was able to find a woman investigating her. I erased the evidence she had, and in doing so recruited not just Helen but her cousin as well.

I played my next mission as Helen and ended up getting her arrested in the process, but Rebekah has a construction uniform, and thus could access the mission area with less (but not zero) risk of being spotted. After completing a mission, the game recommended I get a lawyer so as to reduce the time characters spend in jail.

Neat.

With the exception of certain story villains or people you've pissed off too much, yes. At the start of the game, you can't recruit those with a negative view of DedSec, but you can pretty quickly unlock the ability to do so.

It's crazy how people freaked out thinking that you won't get attached to any of these characters because they're random, but I almost lost my first recruit because I had permadeath on and bumrushed an albion squad and I nearly cried.

Update on this: the guards who arrest/incapacitate one cousin are listed as adversaries of the other. Really cool.

Had a fun recruitment mission where I had to get into a hospital, which I did using an operative who is a surgeon and blends in in those areas. Then, on my way out of the area, I saw the shortcuts and level design that would've allowed for anybody to sneak in fairly easily. It's cool that there are multiple ways to go about things.

- you can tell these are British cops and not Americans because if you don't use guns, they won't either.

I'm really wary of Ubisoft games after The Division 2 and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and this has very similar verbiage and advertising on its website :(

Ran into a string of difficulty trying to recruit a journalist (he has a flying drone which I think would be helpful). In the second part of his mission, I got one operative arrested, one operative killed, and the hostage I was trying to free for him also got killed, meaning the reporter now dislikes DedSec. So now I have to wriggle my way back into his respect via one of his friends or his girlfriend (who previously hated me for default reasons) before I can try to recruit him.

I'm super excited to play as Wrench. Hopefully all the DLC characters get the "can be played through the entire main story" treatment that Aiden Pearce is getting. Not having really played this I think I'd prefer one established character, but we'll see how I feel about the story once I get a new CPU or the game gets patched.

so I played some last night and I have to say the linearity of some of the recruitment missions is shitty for an open world game.

one of the first recruit options was to rescue a guy from a compound. i could get in by disabling things on ground level but i used the cargo drones to lift to the roof level and infiltrate.

so i get the guy rescued after taking out most of the guards and its time to exfil the compound.

now, this should be doable by many different ways; going back out through the cargo drones, the boat launch at the bottom of the compound or busting through the front gates.

but no, that would be too open, too free. you and your incompetent rescued sidekick cannot leave by drone, or by boat, you have to bust through the security gate and get chased and gunned down in the streets of London.

It's honestly immersion-ruining that your character's voice doesn't necessarily match their appearance and backstory.

Which sounds like a weird complaint to make but it's legitimately making me dislike the person I started with >_>

It fucking sucks to be honest. I got a Spy who was a woman and she was 41, but the female Indian accent in this game throws me off and she sounds far too young and too unprofessional to be a spy. I just like her because my silenced P9 and the car.

I regret to inform that Rebekah Dey has died. But, I found Helen Dey's boyfriend being assaulted by a cop, and could recruit him.

Once you unlock the deep profiler, you can avoid a lot of recruitment missions just by looking on a character's profile for a smaller task you can take care of. These will be both quicker and generally less risky.

I've generally been okay with the voices; some are really good fits. But tend to err on the side of being too brusque and gruff for their stated professions, if that makes sense.

They've actually pared down some stuff from WD2 (there's no real skill tree the way that game had, just some gadgets and abilities you can buy), and they ditched a more RPG approach that they'd talked about previously.

There are two main systems to concern yourself with
- recruiting new team members by doing missions or tasks for them; every character in the world has a few relationships with other characters that you can use to help you along the way
- six districts on the map you can liberate with just a few quick tasks; this gets you a unique recruit and makes it easier to recruit people from that district.

Even side activities seem pretty limited compared to the previous game, just (as far as I've seen) delivery missions, boxing (which unlocks a few unique recruits) darts, and this kickups minigame.
