I'm a bit over halfway through Desolation of Smaug though. It was the filmmakers decision. From how they wrote it, it was honestly better to make it 3 instead of 2. But, they probably shouldn't have wrote it that way in the first place. Yeah, they are not terrible, if you think of them basically as a tv series. Honestly, it makes me wish each of the 3 LotR parts had been longer. No. The Hobbit [movie 1] should have adapted the book almost in its entirety without adding stuff thst wasn't from the book. TABA [movie 2] would have some creative freedom especially since Bilbo was KO'd most of the battle.
