I thought it was a remaster?

Edit: oh shit it is a sequel. The subtitle "Rebirth" led me to believe it was a remake or something. Gonna have to cop that

I watched some people play through it and was very disappointed. They put a lot more emphasis on story than horror, but unlike in SOMA the story didn't interest me at all.

I think the first 1/2 was fine, but the story kind of falls apart in the 2nd half. As the story is revealed it becomes fairly uninteresting.

That said, I thought the story of the original Amnesia was pretty good, I didn't think story was sacrificed for horror. I was fully engaged the whole time, wanting to find out what happened in the past.

I liked the story in the first game too. Perhaps a better way to phrase it is that the new games spends a lot more time on exposition than the previous game did. Expect to spend more time reading notes, listening to monologues and watching your character act out pseudo-cutscenes than dark descent did.

There was a lot of exposition in The Dark Descent too. Lots of notes and memories. At the beginning of Rebirth I felt like I was being bombarded with memories every 20 seconds but not so much now that I'm a few hours into it. Gameplay-wise it's a lot more like The Dark Descent than A Machine for Pigs. So far it's just not as scary to me though, but I find the lore and environments to be fascinating. One thing that pisses me off is this game has literal popup screamers in it. The Dark Descent was awesome because it didn't rely on cheap jump scares like that.
