The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

I kinda feel like Star's spells are too large scale for Spinel here, her speed isn't going to help if Star just stops time or blasts the entire area

Gonna give to Star

Her spells have way more range and aoe applications so she could tag her. As mentioned she also has some other options with illusions, potential time stopping, and transmutation. Between the ambush bonus, how powerful her spells are, and the sheer variety of spells she has at her disposal she can deal with Spinel.

She can also fly, portal, and is tanky enough to endure Spinel's attacks if it comes to that.

This strongly inclines me to vote for Star even setting aside any power advantage or lack thereof because the laws of narrative are gonna be so comically slanted in her favor

Am I the only one who feels this way about this match?

at the very least it means she's probably not getting caught off guard by Spinel's fighting style. She's dealt with weirder

Usually I try not to apply genre tropes

But even if I did, I feel like magical girls often lose the first confrontation before powering up and winning the second

It really depends on whether Spinel is a one- or multi-episode boss

It kinda depends on threat level I think

If Spinel is a monster of the week, she's fuckin done for

If she's a mid level arc villain, she probably wins

and if she's the final boss she has no chance, because final bosses only get one shot and the heroines always win against them

I don't know enough about either to make a decision.

Feels like there are way too many questions in this one, Star is a giant wildcard with what spells she'll go for and she could either wipe Spinel out right away or fuck around and get her wand stolen

Star doesn't need the wand. She can do all her spells on her own once she unlocked "Morning Star" mode and can do it outside of it
