I would actually play them in sequential order. That means starting Yakuza Kiwami. You should save Yakuza 0 for after playing Yakuza 5.

The games are amazing, though. I've been meaning to get back into them. I have them all.

I really enjoyed playing 0 first, then Kiwami. I don't regret doing it this way.

I played Kiwami (remake of the original) first and Im glad I did because the scale of those two games are radically different. Kiwami is much smaller/shorter than 0 and I think my expectations for Kiwami would have been too high if I was coming off of 0.

That said, you cant go wrong either way and youre in for an amazing time

Pretty sure only 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are on Game Pass (and maybe Xbox as a whole?)

No it opens up after awhile.

I love the fact that a ton of sidequests have irl JAV models as the npcs and when you complete them, you unlock erotic (but sfw) videos of them that Kiryu can deed to >_>

the story may feel a little slow at first, but stick with it. the game introduces a lot of things before launching the plot, but it's worth it.

This is how I did it as well. As long as you know going in that you're either going to hit a quality drop from 0 to Kiwami or that the games get so much better going from Kiwami to 0, you can play them either way. Not that Kiwami isn't fantastic, I just wouldn't have enjoyed it as much after playing 0.

but 0 comes before 1 but i gotta agree.

have the game, it's in backlog (saving it as a long endurance game since it takes over 50 hours to plat) it's the cutoff to a quicker plat (under 50 hours).

I admire the Yakuza series, and I'd recommend it to anyone, but after the first two games on the PS2, I haven't liked a Yakuza game.

Kiwami 1 is decent. You can tell it's based off a PS2 game in terms of story and main missions.

I'm part way through Kiwami 2 and hot DAMN this is a fantastic game. >_>

It really is. Only down side is that it took me a long time to adjust to the 30 FPS compared to 0 & Kiwami 1's 60 FPS. Everything just felt so damn slow in K2 despite the graphics having a noticeable improvement.

I played Kiwami first then went to 0 and after that hit 2 - 5. I have no qualms about this ordering because Kiwami 1 is definitely the weakest of the bunch so far.

I'm on chp 3 myself. Was really slow at first. When the end of chp 1 hit though, that's when I got interested.

This is why 0 is the correct answer.

The fact that it's the first chronologically and unabashedly one of the best examples of the series is why I'll always recommend 0 first.

Kiwami is fine, but if you want a 100% accurate representation of what Yakuza can truly offer, it's not the best place to start, especially if you don't have time to play through every single game in the series, which most people don't.
