Oh, in unrelated news, I'm now caught up with the official English volume release of Kaguya-sama (Volume 16. I have 17 pre-ordered but that's like a week-and-a-half out) Man, it somehow keeps getting better. Really curious what Season 3 covers. Doing some quick mental math without checking the exact chapter numbers I feel like the next arc might be a bit awkward with episode count. I feel like 12 might end mid-arc in an awkward spot unless they skip a bunch of stuff but 24 is too much?

idk maybe a split season of 11 and 11 or something? That still feels like too much but IDK if you can get like a 16-18 episode season or something. I don't see too many non-standard episode counts.

100% hyped for a Season 3 though, I'd love to see some of this stuff animated.

I got started tonight also. Finished the prologue and got a bit farther so far.

Pretty good so far though it's obviously still hard to say at this stage. The soundtrack is already looking to be much more appealling at least to me than Cold Steel 3's was.

I really liked CS3's OST, but I seem to be in the minority there!

So it looks like Olivert actually did die? I'm kinda surprised because deaths in Trails very rarely actually stick! Well, it just said they held a funeral for him, so I suppose he could be alive out there somewhere. It's the comic book rule of "if you don't see the body, they aren't dead" at work, perhaps?

Wasn't expecting to see Shirley randomly become a Thors instructor. Following in Randy's footsteps, I guess!

Oh hey, it's Schera! Nice to see you after you were heard of but not seen in CS3! It sounds like Michelle Ruff's voice (Yukari from P3, Kawakami from P5, and Yuki Nagato from Haruhi Suzumiya), so that's a welcome addition!

It's kind of weird seeing this Crossbell stuff as someone who was introduced to it in CS3 and then played Zero without finishing it and now I'm back to CS4. It's like I know these NPCs and areas better now, but I've skipped ahead on their stories without knowing all the details!

Cold Steel IV Prologue beated!

I feel like I'm spoiling myself on important Crossbell stuff just by being here! I just met Dieter Crois and his daughter in Zero, and they're talking about the Crois family and their alchemy activating this tower two years ago, so I guess I should expect a heel turn at some point! Also, uh, it didn't seem like Elie had giant knockers in Trails From Zero to me, and yet...! I also kinda wondered if her name was pronounced "ee-lee" since there was only one L, but I guess not!

Hey there, Claire. It's so wild seeing all these subseries intermingling like this. Oh nice, a reference to Weissman there by Black Alberich, or Alberich of the Black Demise as he's known now, apparently! Oh hey, there's a humongous spoiler for Crossbell, LOL. Mariabell Crois is the Third Anguis of Ouroboros and took Weissman's place, huh? I knew about KeA Bannings, the Zero Child, from Cold Steel III, but this is a new one! If they mentioned her in CS3 at all, it wouldn't have registered, I guess.

Huh, interesting. Mariabell flatly says that Ouroboros surrendered to Osborne. That surprises me. They felt so omnipotent and omnipresent in the other subseries, but Cold Steel has really taken them down a peg. Oh my word, Rosenberg dolls from that doll factory. This is wild. We get to fight the trio in a fanservice battle, and then we run away. Alberich and Mariabell exchange barbs about stealing the others' technologies for their own purposes. Then Claire breaks down when she belatedly gets an orbmail from Millium. I have a feeling most of the Ironbloods will turn on Osborne before this is over. They were already pretty reluctant participants by the end of CS3.

I had kinda forgotten Ash was a Hamel survivor until Joshua talked about it just now, whoops! Oh, so I guess Yin ends up becoming an ally of the SSS! Man, I feel like I really should've at least completed Chapter 2! It was cool getting to play as Estelle, Joshua, Lloyd, and Elie here. I wonder how long it'll be before they show back up again. I feel like it won't be until the endgame where you'll have like 50 party members to choose from! The OP is pretty great, and I like how they saved Rean for last.

Whoa, it's so jarring to see the New Class IV in the main branch uniforms. Oh hey, it's Ash. I guess this is a dream or something. Ash's VA sounds different, almost like his voice is an octave higher. Or is it not a dream and Juna's just that ditzy for plot purposes? There's a weird black smoky effect at the corners of the screen that make it seem like a dream, but maybe it's the effect of the Great Twilight or something? Did their memories get altered to forget about Rean? This is all way too confusing.

Okay, looks like it was a dream, but Juna, Kurt, and Altina all had the same dream. Oh hey, it's Emma, Randy, and Roselia. Wait, so are we in the home of the witches? Looks like the entire original Class VII is here. Argh, Laura's voice is different, and Osborne's sounds different, too, but everyone else sounds the same. Also, I'm with Juna. What exactly is an atelier? And yep, this is the home of the Hexen Clan, known as the village of Eryn.

Celine's voice sounds different, too. Oh right, I had forgotten that Musse was in cahoots with Vita. So much about CS3 that I've forgotten! That would explain why she's not with everyone. And that explains why Randy is here, too, without Tio. What if this town winds up being our hub for CS4? I'd dig it.

(spoilers for Ao no Kiseki and CS4 but you're fine to read if you've only gotten to where Leon is in CS4) To be fair, I'm pretty sure most of this is spoiled in past games also! Just in ways that only really stand out if you already know the characters. I think you can read about Dieter Crois in newspapers in Cold Steel 2 and I remember some detail on things other than KeA being given in CS3 also. Not sure if Mariabell's name is ever mentioned, but yeah.

Also in you want a bit more context on the thing in the second paragraph I quoted then click the following, but if you don't want any extra information on Ao then don't. (Ao no Kiseki spoilers) Bell is actually not in Ouroboros during the events of the Crossbell arc--there is scheming going but she's not a part of the organization. She's basically invited to join the society at the end of Azure.

Anyway uh I really liked the prologue. Renne was a bit underwhelming which was unfortunate because I was excited for her. It was great to play as Lloyd, Estelle, and Joshua again though. Also I have absolutely no idea why these 3 specific antagonists were gathered at the top of this tower just waiting for us but whatever it was a really cool boss fight.

A Place Further Than The Universe Episode 5 complete!

Wow, this Kimari/Megu relationship feels like the dark side of the Chie/Yukiko relationship Chie confesses to when she first gets her Persona, but it was a cool moment about learning to let go of your safety nets and get out of your comfort zone.

And this time this really is Cold Steel IV Prologue complete!

We're walking around Eryn just talking to Class VII people, and the general feeling for everyone is some form of despondence. Laura is distraught over her father's death, obviously, but she does mention that their bodies were supposedly burned beyond recognition or recovery, so they had their funerals with empty caskets. That does leave open the possibility they're still alive.

Alisa is pondering the implications of her father being the leader of the Gnomes, as well as what her mother and Sharon plan to do now. Gaius is beating himself up over not being able to use his new Dominion powers to save Rean or the others. Emma and Roselia discuss the implications of Musse working with Vita and how losing a familiar is always difficult for a witch.

Jusis is carrying Millium's hat, a sign that their bond was much closer than he let on. He offers it to Altina, but she insists that he keep it. Jusis explains to the new Class VII who Musse actually is and how she organized the Weissland Army in response to a premonition she had about what was about to happen in Heimdallr. She's got not only Vita but Bardias and Le Guin on her side, too. Jusis wonders if Musse intends to lead an independent resistance to Osborne, but she'd have no chance of success if so. Regardless, Jusis believes she's weaving some sort of plan to counteract what Osborne is doing using her keen insight.

Juna gets angry when she learns that Osborne is Rean's real father and that everyone kept it from her, so she rounds them all up to chew them out for some reason. Her impassioned speech seems to snap everyone out of their malaise. The old Class VII then recognizes the new Class VII as their equals, which was a cool moment.

Then we cut to the Weissland Army aboard the Pantagruel. It's so weird seeing Musse dressed as a proper lady, as well as seeing Vita and Aurelia treat her with such reverence. Vita even says she's Anguis material, although she downplays her foresight because she failed to prevent what Ash did. Musse accurately expects Juna and the others to get their act together and push everyone to move forward.

We briefly cut to Ash on the run from somewhere, and then we cut to Crow surrounded by the imprisoned Valimar and Sword of the End as Duvalie and McBurn (the ALMIGHTY CONFLAGRATION is still an absurd name) approach. Crow declares himself a free agent now, so he's "just" the Azure Awakener. Then we cut to Rean struggling as he's surrounded by some dark aura, and Celine is there, too. Then Copper Georg shows up and talks about something called the Rivalries starting soon. I think Black Alberich mentioned that, too, whatever it is.

Oh hey, it's the CS4 OP again! It's kind of interesting that they kinda make Estelle and Rean foils of each other as protagonists because Estelle is often compared to the sun (with her name literally meaning Star Bright), while Rean is always battling an inner darkness.

I am at the CS3 Final Dungeon so hopefully I can wrap this up soon and join you guys in CS4.

Of course, my new nemesis is that I think my controller's battery is dying/failing at maintaining a charge very long now so that's "cool." Worst case I can always play with it wired but the wire that comes with the PS4 is so short ugh.
