This is straight up Bizarro world voter suppression

But it does reinforce that the US is already a failed democracy. The courts are already stacked, votes are already suppressed, and the electoral system is already rigged. There is no enforcement mechanism to counter any of this because as far as half the government is concerned this is the system working as intended.

There's absolutely no way something like this could flip California red if it wasn't caught and many people fell for it. The bigger issue is the down ballot races cause there are certainly pockets of California that are purple and this could've changed the results of races at many levels if this ended up being a widespread issue. Mayor, city council, school board, state assembly, US house all possible could've been impacted.

It's shitty that it's come to this in CA, but on another level I can appreciate that the portion of the state that isn't LA or SF is sick of pissing into the wind if they vote R. The situation is similar in NY in many respects.

It's ugly in states like NY and CA where half the population pays taxes only to have no say in where their taxes go because of one or two big cities is all I'm saying. The metropolitan areas call the tune, but if the surrounding areas cut off their supply lines, they couldn't exist period. California's water flows thru many red states. How long could they exist without that water? We already saw the hellscape New York City and it's immediate surroundings turned into 9 meals after hurricane Sandy.

We've reached a point where both sides won't give an inch lest they lose a mile. If there is a boogaloo, it's not going to be like the Civil War, it's going to be sieges on the metropolitan areas from it's surrounding counties. Shit like this is just the first shots being fired imo.

click on the image itself to see better defined lines for the districts. They didn't show up well throwing that on imgur. the red represents seven of the 53 districts in california and the districts are nearly equal in population size.

My point is LA and SF are only two cities in california and attributing democrats success to just those cities is silly since they're winning nearly everywhere lately.

This is silly. it's not even close to half. Democrats in california got twice as many votes in the 2018 elections than republicans did. Land doesn't vote.

Land may not vote, but land grows food and feeds aquifers. How long can 8M people in New York City survive when the other 8M turn on them? Worst case scenario? Land may not vote, but I suspect you'll find that the metropolitan areas are completely ignorant as to the logistics their existence requires.

For the sake of argument, how much food do you think NYC can grow in Central Park, worst case scenario? Like midieval siege scenario? Enough for 8ish million people? I get the point of what your saying in a perfect world Mead, but if half the state you live in feels like it's being ignored, while the other half exists at the mercy of the ignored, how long do you think live goes on without shit hitting the fan?

Again, see above. Hurricane Sandy turned the 5 boroughs into a mad max hellscape for a week, and that was a random natural disaster passing thru as natural disasters do. Now add intelligence and/or malice to that equation. 9/11 didn't bring NYC to its knees because the bridges and tunnels were still clear. Laying siege to NYC would be almost trivial as a thought experiment.

People seem to forget that Timothy McVeigh was a militia nutjob from upstate NY with 3 co-conspirators.

100 of these nutjobs upstate start cutting down trees in the right places along I-95, the Merritt Parkway, 9W, 9D, 84, 684, 87 etc and its not the bridges and tunnels NYC has to worry about unless they think kids in straw hats and overalls are going to risk floating supplies down the hudson by raft, and there's plenty of vantage points in the Hudson Valley north of West Point and the Constitution Island Battery to shut that lane down too.

the real world also includes the simple logistics of a metropolis being 9 meals short of utter chaos.

do you have an extra GOTO10 line Mead? principles are one thing, but at some point, the rubber has to meet the road. I'm a free-speech absolutist, but i also get the "Fire in a crowded theater" thing. The metropolises hold the rest of their states hostage at the mercy of their supply lines.

that's just logistics.

how is it kafka anything

he's asking you why you think someone elses vote should be better than someone elses, and you keep going on some weird tangent about how cities can be blocked off and starved for food for some weird ass reason, as if this somehow proves your point but it doesn't. it's just a weird tangent that doesn't mean anything if you can't actually explain why that matters in the context of this question.

also as an aside, "kafkatrap" is a rhetorical device in which any denial by the accused serves as evidence of guilt, which also super does not apply to this situation of you avoiding a very easily answered question in which no one is being accused of anything.

the democrat stronghold metropolitan areas are effectively toddlers. they can fuss all they want but at the end of the day they still need someone else to feed them. they can throw their tantrums and make their demands, but eventually if they keep ignoring everyone around them, they're going to end up starving. have at it. keep ignoring the rest of your constituencies "because land doesn't vote". you know what else land doesn't do on its own? grow food.

again, weird tangent, but none of that has anything to do with what's actually being asked. none of that has anything to do with the topic as a whole, none of that has anything to do with anything.

what is so difficult about answering why you think someones vote should be worth more than someone elses. why is your default response to go on a unwarranted tangent about something unrelated to what was asked.
