Watching this livestream from Arc System Works for Guilty Gear - Strive on YouTube.

They just announced a new character named Giovanna. She has some fox spirit that reminds me of Millia's hair or Zato's Eddy shadow and she seems to mostly fight with kicks.

They also announced Anji Mito will be returning.

They look cool, but 15 characters at launch + season pass announcement before game has a release date is a 'wait and see' as usual for fighting game

I, for one, would be most happy to see Jam, Testament, Venom, Slayer, or Johnny.

Honestly, I am really surprised to see Anji return. He was one of my favorites from GGX2. Behind Ky, Millia, and Slayer.

Dumbed down gameplay and visuals to attract the esports crowd who'd rather watch a game than play it.

It's the same problem that doomed Blazblue Cross Tag these games just do not have the brand to attract those people, FighterZ does, who doesn't know what Dragonball is and Granblue I hear is also a rather popular franchise but i've never heard of it.

they haven't revealed the entire roster yet, and they are already talking about DLC

this is literally worse than SFV's launch

It is really slow even Crosstag was faster than this so fast that matches would in in 2 minutes or less. Then Yumi got added to the game and she completely killed everything.

Neither of those things particularly bother me, or much of the currently popular fighting games. I'm not opposed to streamlining if it makes sense; Actually, I don't like SFV specifically for going too simple, but that hasn't killed it off at all. My problem is that it's gotten so slow: There's like a quarter second pause for anything more than a basic hit!

Yes they've slowed it way the fuck down. Game looks pretty, but nothing about what they've done with the gameplay in the name of "accessibility" appeals to me at all. Feels like they're stripping the heart of the franchise's gameplay completely.

Granblue I hear is also a rather popular franchise but i've never heard of it.

It's enormous in Japan (GBFV outperformed DBFZ there iirc), but basically unheard of here since Cygames refuses to push it at all.

Granblue Fantasy is officially JP only. There's english patches and they don't stop anyone in the west from playing it but it's just not really a game that was ever really intended for western consumption.

Granblue Fantasy RE:Link is going to be pretty big though. Action JRPG with combat developed by platinum games? Weebs on their weebstation gonna eat that shit up like homer and donuts.

Game has a built-in fully translated by the company itself and kept perfectly up to date. That's not patches or being officially JP only, that's a full on English version of the game.

I'm kind of mixed on it, but overall it's a better practice than needing to buy several new versions of a game to keep up, and it lets them keep adding new characters over time.

I dont particularly like it. Announcing DLC before the game even launches is really lame.

But then, it was also lame having to buy the updated versions of the game back in the day.

Let me complain some more: The screen transitions are ruining corner advantage, and the new characters can't match the XX OGs in design! At least work on the old ones first before pumping out new characters. How the fuck are you gonna leave out the girls?
