They took all of my friend and I's keys, wallets, iPhone's, and his car.

The scariest part about this is that they have our identities. My address is on my driver's license.. They have my keys. They can come to my house any time they want. Have you guys ever dealt with a situation like this? Any advice?

Of course. We ran to the nearest gas station and a police car happened to be there. We told them the robbery happened a minute away, they dispatched a car to the location and that was the last we ever heard...

As soon as I got home I tracked my iPhone via the cloud on my Laptop, and I know exactly where they're at. I contacted the police and they said "thank you we"ll look into it". I literally know where my phone is at, but they have a protocol they have to follow and I guess they're not allowed to just storm the location. Which seems disappointing, but I'm not a police officer so I won't pretend to know their job.

Twice.

Stabbed in my upper right leg (during elementary, wasn't really a robbery but the dude was probably high on drugs or some shit) and shot in my arm trying block my vitals (high school, would be mugger didn't take shit and ran after the first shots).

Always be alert with your surroundings, notice people and their company, don't engage (especially if you're not strapped), and try to get a good look on them. Of course each situation is, well, situational and won't always work.

It's weird, I've been held at gunpoint a few times and I wasn't ever scared-- not because I'm a hardass, but each time that part of my brain just shut off and I was calculating how to best get out of the situation.

It's things like this that really worry me. This is why I made this topic, what other things should I be aware of? And is there anything I can do to prevent them from opening up credit lines?

So far I planned on replacing all of the locks in my home so they can't enter if they follow my address. I set my iPhone as lost so it's under a full lockdown, maybe I should erase it in case they're able to jail break into a modern iPhone? But then I lose all of my pictures and memories I have. The 3rd troubling thing is my car keys. I have keyless entry, so even if I change the physical locks, they can use unlock button on the keyless entry to open up the car. If they come to my address they can try and steal my car that way. Maybe the dealership can create a new keyless entry? So it uses a brand new signal that is not accessible to the old keyless entry device.

This is a really scary thing and I hope that this never happens to any of you. I'm basically a target as long as I live in my home. If I try and follow them via my iPhone tracking, I run the risk of them retaliating and coming to my address. It's such a disgusting and sad world I live in, I've had a really difficult year and this has really just sunk me.

What is wrong with you man? Do you not understand how police functions? Whenever you approach the police with anything, they do a thorough interview and take as much info as they can from you. Why would anyone assume that the police just skipped that part. Common sense doesn't need to have every detail explained.

If you're in the states freeze your credit now. Like literally, now. Get credit monitoring. Any suspect accounts or inquiries dispute immediately. Report every incident to the police and keep adding to your police report.

Also report any of your government identifications stolen and get new ones. If you have any other IDs in there report them stolen as well and get new ones.

Report credit cards/debit cards stolen immediately and have them cancelled.

If you go to that gps location, and if your car is also there, and it is sitting out in the open, and you call the police from nearby and tell them you are there and about to get your stolen car, they will send a police officer to that location with you, end of story.

My friend had his motorcycle stolen a month ago. He found it on craigslist being sold, he knew it was his. He told the police, they said "So you think you found it? Oh okay, well we'll look into it." BUt he knew it was there and might not be there for long. So he headed that way, and called the police and said "I am about to be at my stolen motorcycle, can you send an officer to meet me?"

They literally met him a mile down the road and set up a sting lol. He got it back. But anyway, yeah if you just tell them they won't do anything, but if your force their hand something will happen. Kind of contingent on if your car is there, might not be if the robber is at all smart. But I would go check it out if I were you. If it was just today, there's a decent chance the car and phone might still be together. I would move on it.

What you do is get one of those really thin wallets and put it in your underwear pocket so when some one tries to rob you you can be like what wallet and tap your pockets and say I don't even got a wallet. Lots of thieves will look at your pockets and if they see a visible shape like a wallet or phone you become a target.

I just did this as soon as I saw your message. I froze my credit on the 3 big ones: Equifax, Transunion and Experian. Should I leave it at that or freeze the lesser known Unions? There are 2 lesser known small ones I believe. They only stole one debit card and one drivers license. I already cancelled the debit card, and I will go to the DMV tomorrow to report my Driver's License as stolen. You're saying I should do this for all my ID's regardless?

I lost my job recently and I haven't been in a good place mentally. I haven't gone out in months. My buddy suggested that we go out and just let loose, with good intentions just to have fun. He was trying to cheer me up.. My friend ended up befriending 2 women that night. They invited us to come drinking with them after the bar closes. My friend agreed and so he took their phone number and followed the address they gave him. When we got there, no one was there. We waited about 5-10 min and thats when 2 males approached us, held us at gun point, and took everything from us.

Never give up your keys in a robbery. This is coming from someone who has been robbed at gun point multiple times.

Yea you gotta change your locks, replace your credit cards. More than likely they may use your identity to open more credit cards but they may have just taken the money and cards you had and toss the wallet (this happened to me).

Also feel free to just run away if you arent willing to fight back or shoot. They will more than likely not chase you or shoot you. (I ran once but this was across the street of three lane traffic)

This was my initial thought as well, but truthfully I'll never know. It could have been coincidental as well, we looked like prime targets chilling by ourselves on a sidewalk and some thieves chose to take advantage. Then again, they knew we had a car? They specifically asked where our car was. So that is a clue that we were probably set up. I don't know..

To the 2 posters above about running or handing over the keys. Here in Chicago they kill children man... I'm confident they wouldn't hesitate to put a bullet in me.

I think you're good. Just report anything lost that you need cancelled and replaced (e.g. if you own a gym membership card). I'd monitor your credit reports periodically for the next few months just in case but it sounds like you've got all your bases covered.

Yeah... I'm not impressed if you were at gunpoint in your car. I drove away from that, too.

Open a door and have three guys point shotguns in your face, or have someone shove a revolver up into your kidney, then tell them they aren't getting your keys.

You can always take your family to a motel.

You need to call the credit unions directly. They'll verify your identity then you can ask whatever.

Sorry I just saw you said your bank gives credit reports. So if someone applied for credit, they often just show up on one or the other but not all of them (some companies use equifax, some use transunion). So you'd have to check all the reports to see if these was an inquiry cuz it could have been done with any one of them.
