look at the other link for illustrations. Basically there were kids on the second floor who entered a hallway that had a staircase leading down and a door at the end. The door opened inwards, and only a few centimeters (it wouldnt open all the way), intended so that one kid entered at a time through the door.

Bug hundreds of kids poured into the hallway, and soon they were pushing on top of each other at the bottom of the stairs. They were literally piling on top of each other

What's their to understand? Kids variety show started giving out gifts but because one of the doors was bolted shut to try and ironically maintain order when tickets were being checked there was a stampede and 183 kids got crushed in the stampede.

the key thing is that the door opened inwards and only opened slightly. it was the perfect storm for a death trap.

the thing that horrified me the most was thinking of the man who had to wrench it open. you'd literally be crushing suffocating children heaped upon each other by pushing the door open but it might save more.

What the heck? They made a memorial statue for remembering the Tragedy, and people vandalized it so much over a long while that they needed they had no choice to relocate the statue closer to city hall.

This is a lesson on many tragedies can be avoided if people just thought things out more. You really gotta appreciate all the safety procedures there are today and realize people probably have died for it to happen.
