On a line for customer service to return my Amazon order and this one lady returning a bunch of clothing is bitching that the Kohl clothing sizes run small for her son. And the associate said that back to her. LOL

Debatable, it's probably more likely to make people anorexic than actually change their eating habits.

She should have bitched to the manager. I can't tell me how many times I bought pants with 30 inch legs that were labeled as 34.

Nah the customer is right here. It's bullshit how completely inconsistent clothing sizes are so it's just a game of chance whether it will be the right size or not.

No reason to take it out on the associate, though.

I never bought clothing at Kohls, so don't know about their sizes.

Anyway, I'm home now so more free to type up details. The customer bitched her out because the associate wouldn't give a refund but store credit, as the customer did not have a receipt nor used a credit card for the original purchase (to look it up on their system).

The customer kept raising her voice at the associate that the clothing doesn't fit, the extra large clothing is too small for her son, that the associate should refund her, etc. The associate said the topic title herein, then the customer said "what did you say?", to which the associate just brushed off and said she'll call her manager to process the refund.

The associate told the customer to step aside while they wait for the manager, so that the associate can process other people, but the customer, obviously, rejected this.

The manager came pretty quickly though. And in the end, she got her cash refund but for the lowest sale price in the past month or whatever for each item. Literally each item the associate scanned and the refund price showed up, the customer argued that wasn't the price she paid.

In order for it to be a legitimate complaint the complaint needs to be directed at the right person. An hourly associate isn't the one labelling the size of the clothes. You're bitching at them for something that they have absolutely no power or ability to fix.

Does it say anything about dealing with customers in a respectful way, treating them as friends/family/whatever, or any other such nonsense about "interacting with customers daily in a positive way"?

Because if there's anything in your job description that mentions customer interaction, that means you're expected to treat them in a certain way. If you treat them wrong, you can be fired with 100% validity.

No. As former walmart store manager getting yelled at about things they can't control is not in the job description of the associates I hire. Their job is to make the store look nice, answer basic questions, stock, and check people out.

Speaking of wal-mart, I had literally no training on how to deal with difficult customers before I was thrown on the floor. There was a lot of stuff on how to help them but nothing on what to do if they don't act like Sam's perfect angels. Well, the training was shit in a lot of ways, but that was very glaring. Though I had my time split between floor and backroom so maybe they gave that training to the exclusively customer-facing people.

Plenty of reasons really. Simple things often are not simple in retail when you are short staffed dealing with fools and doing more then 1 job at a time. Some people are just so batshit or exhausting to deal with.

Also a lot of the "they forgot my *insert item* is the guest themselves fucking up leaving a bag behind. Had many people leave their drink on the counter after I hand it to them.

Yeah, you can always tell in these topics who has worked retail and who hasnt. It was a big order and I had set the bag in question off to the side(with a big order, you quickly run out of room to bag in, especially if the customer is slow to bring their cart down)and this was during a rush, and the cashiers are speed demons because the company tracks how fast they ring and they get in trouble if they dont ring fast enough.
And of course most customers just sort of stand there either making small talk or looking at you impatiently. The bag wound up going home with the next customer.

That was years ago though, and I didnt even realize it had happened at the time, Im just explaining how stuff like that happens. On the rare occasions that it even does.
