Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

Luke

He pretty much has an answer to most of Aang's stuff regularly and if we are counting EU Luke then Aang gets demolished even with AS.

Reminder that EU Luke would be pushing the upper bounds of high tier.

I think energy bending actually has a legit use here in cutting off Luke's connection to the force, I don't know if he would try that or not but it's there

other than that I could see this going either way.

I really don't see why energy bending matters much for these matches. If Aang has subdued his opponent enough to take away their powers, he can DQ them another way

I think it matters here because Aang prefers not to kill people, and Luke could eventually free himself from being trapped in rock or something using the force, unless he doesn't have it

I don't think it needs to be argued for until we figure out how these two actually match up, but I wanted to put it on the table

Is The Force able to be taken away? From what I understand, energybending is taking the energy out of the individual that allows them to bend, based on their chakras and chi. But The Force is just everywhere, working through a Jedi who guides it, who is just attuned to guiding it. Whereas water and air don't have consciousness, The Force kinda does, to an extent...

... or is that just EU force and is movie force different? I just question if there's anything to really take out of Luke, unless Aang would literally, like, bend midi-chlorians out of his body.

Are Midi-chlorians still a thing?

Aren't Midi-chlorians just indicators? I don't think tearing them out of Luke would do much to stop him.

Im pretty sure the original intent is that they are more than that. They are a symbiotic lifeform that enables access to the force. They are kind of like a mystical analogue to mitochondria.

That said I really cant say if this has been clarified/retconned since the Disney takeover.

It's plasma, so yes, but it's also held in place by the Force, so this just becomes a debate where we argue whether Aang or Luke is the stronger magic user in general, which seems like a recipe for pain

I doubt it. If it could it would probably be super rare like magma bending and bloodbending. Aang would be unlikely to be able to do it (I don't think he even ever lightning bends, just redirects). Anyway non EU Luke is pretty nerfed but even then he could do something though AS Aang would be tough

Depends if you compare him to some others. Fallen Order spoilers...Vader held back a bunch of water in an underwater facility breach while the group is making their escape so depends if you count that or not.

I am not too familiar with the new movies so I don't know if he shows off anything there that would be relevant against Aang unless this is strictly OT Luke

Honestly, I'd have to go for aang here, because when it doesn't matter if you slice a rock, when you just got two rocks or how do you deal with a dust cloud, or just fire, nothing a lightsaber does really effectively deals with any of the elements

I'd also put the experience advantage firmly on aang's side, having the lives of thousands of other avatars, and more complete training than luke with the force.

Mind you I don't think it will be to the death, I expect it to be surrender, Aang doesn't like killing, and Luke although stubborn, probably would realize when outmatched.

Luke mindfucks Aang with mindtricks and demolishes him. If we're counting movie Luke, his peak of power is in The Last Jedi and that Luke is clearly miles ahead of Aang and a much wilier bastard than him. No chance.

Doesn't the mind trick only work on weak-willed people? Aang might have been naive enough to fall for it at the start of the series but the Aang who outwilled Ozai isn't losing to a mind trick.

Pretty heavily leaning Aang right now, he has a lot more ways to control the battle with his bending and he can redirect Luke's best ranged option (force lightning)

I can't see aang being vulnerable to jedi mindtricks, especially with the avatar link to past lives, if it's going to be tricks, they need to be physical ones, not ones based on powers.

I also doubt Aang would be vulnerable to Jedi mind tricks. Anyway I think they agree to a friendly/fair spar, not to the death, so there would be no mind tricks in play.

I wasn't talking about literal mindtricks. I was talking about how Luke pulls off a massive, battlefield-spanning illusion in TLJ, which fools even other jedi. Basically I don't think Aang can win if he doesn't even realize the sort of enemy he's fighting and what he's actually doing.
