What settings do we typically use for crew mate vision, imposter vision, player speed, and task numbers? Getting a group of friends to play tonight and most lobbies in general just suck. I looked up an online list and I think this seems like what we use. Maybe bump up the discussion time and down the imposter vision.

The settings we generally play on are like this:

1 Emergency Meeting
20s Emergency Meeting CD
30s Kill CD
0.5x Crew Vision, 1.5x Impostor Vision
1.0x Movespeed
1 or 2 Common Tasks
1 or 2 Long Tasks
All Short Tasks possible.

Discussion Time is set to 15s, but you can increase this up if you are playing with mostly randoms to prevent instant votes.
Voting Time depends on how active voice chat is. Usually it's around 90-120s, but sometimes we raise it up if we have a full 10 man in voice.

If you're playing with randoms odds are you're playing with literal children who have no concept of balance for the game and DEMAND you change the ruleset to be LESS tasks, FASTER movement, MORE crew vision, and LESS imposter vision. Literally everything that makes it so imposter can't win they want it. I don't understand it. It's like people think crew should always win and the odds shouldn't be balanced around the fact that imposter and crew should have 50/50 chances of winning, obviously skewed by deduction and deception on the part of people.

I checked my stats for the first time recently. I have about a 50% win rate at crew and 50% win rate as imposter. Was pretty happy with that. A bit higher as imposter and a bit lower as crew.

Public lobby settings are weird. At least x2 running speed, imposter vision less than crew vision, discussion time 0 with voting time 30 seconds, kill range normal or long.

Just checked my stats for the first time too. Ive won 9/18 times that Ive been impostor, not too shabby.

1 v 5 are really quick games since the 1 imp only needs to kill 3 people. Probably just lower the number of tasks for crew. 1 Common, 3-4 Short, 0 Long. You can add another common or a long task if tasks are going by too fast. You could probably still be fine with the rest of the settings we use that I posted above.

The other option is you can play hide and seek.

Lower Impostor vision to 0.25x, Lower Kill CD to 10s, Crew Vision becomes 2.0x. Impostor calls Comms as soon as they can. No one can report bodies and it's a race for the impostor to kill crew as they try to finish their tasks and not get caught.

I mean think about it, would it be fun if you were imposter and crew mates were always winning because you were disadvantaged? I've played games where crew are basically crippled at .5 vision with millions of tasks and crew act like fucking wifi repeaters that know where everyone is exactly and report it concisely in voting times of 90 seconds and imposters get caught first round. Even in situations of where stack kills happen they eliminate all odds and know exactly who to vote out. Sure you can play imposter game of kill people NOT in the stack, but eventually those wifi repeaters work out that they were with someone and eliminate and vouch for people by sheer location. THOSE games are near impossible to win as imposter even with odds IN YOUR favor by game balance. A strong crew is REALLY fucking hard. A balance of crew with high resolve and confident players with some lazy players mixed in is devilishly hard to play against. The funny thing is, if you have too many high resolve confident players in one game, they actually contradict each other or are so confident they blame each other.

Those kinds of games are why it blows my mind that people think low tasks high speed and high crew vision and low imposter vision are the stupidest games ever. Imposter literally have no chance to win, they already seem to have odds stacked against them even if you cripple crew as much as possible.

I honestly think limiting crew vision and crew speed is the best way to balance out the game, but having crew vision of .25x seems to be TOO crippling and not fun, and moving slowly is also not fun. As crew you want to be able to deduce, but no vision means you can't deduce the game becomes more of he said she said, which I think is the point of the game I think. But there's tons of perceptions as to what the game should be like and all of them can be legit. Some people just think crew SHOULD win because there are more of them than imposters and...I guess that's ok, but that's not my kind of fun. But to 12 year olds and such they apparently think it's fun. It's weird, we've been working on the rule sets, but there's always gonna be a balance that needs to be struck for each group to be having fun. That's why I think it's best to expose yourself to as many rulesets as possible and play with multiple groups to get a feel out.

Still advocating for .25x vision XFD.

Oh yeah I think it's funny you can have like 5x or 4x crew vision and when imposter call lights, it's like you have 1x or 1.25 vision. WHICH IS FUCKING BULLSHIT. WHAT'S THE POINT OF CALLING LIGHTS AS IMP IT LITERALLY DOES NOTHING. WHO THINKS THIS IS GOOD!?

I don't mean impossible. I'm just thinking that if you have a 50/50 winrate of the two teams, every individual player will have a lower than 50/50 winrate overall when playing the game. plus also sometimes knowing a win is a bit statistically less likely can make it more exciting when you pull it off

To be fair, Hide and Seek is a "game mode" that revolves around that is balanced by the fact bodies can't be reported and no emergency meetings since the crew is trying to hide from the imp.

It's not something people should play all the time, but it can certainly be fun to play something different.
