Yes.

The man is the head of the household and family, therefore, the wife should ALWAYS take the husband's name.

You mean hyphenated or just combined together like some sort of linguistic portmanteau?

It's a stupid practice and perhaps the worst possible outcome in deciding the last name. Even taking on your wife's last name is less ridiculous (and was historically a practice in some Asian nations when the wife came from a more prominent family).

For the wife, combining the husband's surname and the maiden name with a hyphen in between can have a practical component. However, under no circumstance is it generally practical for the husband to change his last name

No one said anything about practicality, it's just a joint decision that a couple undertakes as one of their first steps in their unity.

What I'm asking is if doing that reduces one's manhood.

It's just as practical for the man the change his name as it is for the woman.

Zeus, it's an act of love

You're searching for a practical component in an act of love

That's not how it works

And if you give a damn, take me baby, or leave me.

In that case, it would reflect more on the couple as a whole rather than on either of the individuals separately, I should think. Personally, I'd be inclined to judge them; a hyphenated surname would seem less stupid in my eyes.
