It's a 2013 Volvo S60 with a fob and no key.

I tried the second fob I have. We tried charging the battery. I tried to do the holding down lock and unlock. I tried pressing the panic button for 5 seconds.

Does anyone know how to shut this off? I don't want to tow it to a freaking dealer.

Do you have one of those computers you can plug into your car to help you find problems/errors? It wont help 100% of the time, but Ive found that its a good starting point for figuring out issues.

No, I don't. But it's either the battery needs to be replaced or they need to reprogram the key fob which I can't do.

I just needed a new battery luckily. The tow driver was able to jump it after we couldn't and said the case was bulging and to get a new one. So I drove it to autozone and they installed it for me. Now she drives fine.

You should get a car scanner. They'll pay for themselves very quickly. I've got this one:

If your check engine light is on it's an automatic smog check fail, and with this you can clear the error if it's something minor like a loose gas cap.

So the main benefit is knowing whether or not it's something you actually need to bring in, or can ignore?

Some errors are just plain stupid, like a loose gas cap. Others are things you might be able to fix yourself, depending on how handy you are (and how hard your car is to repair), like an oxygen sensor or a mass air flow sensor. And some are things that you'll probably want a pro to do, like replacing a catalytic converter. Being able to see what the error is will also tell you if this is something that you can put off for a while or if it needs to be fixed NOW.

seems pretty dumb that cars can't natively report error codes. Just opens up opportunity for motorists to be exploited by mechanics.
