If TC really used both male and female as per the OP then I honestly dont see the issue.

as mentioned, its only weird when people will use female to describe women but men to describe men. >_>

Like Manshep and Femshep?

It's not a slur but I've only ever heard it from people who are trying really hard not to call them bitches.

Okay, so here's the topic and my question that started it all:

https://imgur.com/a/3c513oW

I was genuinely confused as to how I offended 20+ people, so I took it to r/explainmydownvotes.

I... Shouldn't have done that... I don't care about the downvotes because what the fuck is karma gonna get me, but these posts have dozens of upvotes. This many people believe this horseshit?

Conflict posted...
And it's also just straight up weird to use in a non-scientific context

I see you said this a couple times, what exactly is scientific context?

gp1829 posted...
The way you used it seems fine but there are a lot of weirdos that say female in a way that it can be taken as a slur. They are usually incel types.

Fair enough, but as you can see this wasn't the case here haha

Dustin1280 posted...

This is my concern...

If you are using the word contextually right and have no weird connotations to it, than it shouldn't be considered weird or offensive in any way...

On the other hand if you say something like "Look at those men and females playing football," well that is fucking weird in that context.

Absolutely, but again that's not what happened here. DeadBankerDream posted...
I can't remember if TC is a rightwing nutterbutter.

I have no idea if I'm left or right, I don't follow politics closely, disagree with tons of stuff on both sides apparently, and political alignment quizzes seem loaded as fuck to me.

I still says guys and girls almost exclusively, except when talking about kids.

My ex once told me that female makes it sound like Im talking about a dog or something though.

Yeah, I added a pic of whatvexactly was said in post #54, "male" didn't necessarily fit the context of the post, but I get what you mean and it was nothing like that.

You come off as clueless and not acknowledging the barriers and discrimination women face, using the word female is just icing on the cake. It should have been obvious the initial post wasn't related to biological differences.

As I said in that topic I full well understand them, but by that OP's own admission this wasn't the case for her, or any female in this particular scene (skateboarding). They've always been extremely inclusive.

lol my biggest hangup is I really have no idea when I should refer to someone as a "girl" or as a "woman".

Like I'll be referring to someone that's in their like mid-20s and still say "girl" and people are like "?????"

female/male are adjectives while women/men are nouns. "Female skaters are no worse than male skaters" is fine, "skateboarding is just as easy for females as it is for males" is not.

This is correct. People who use "female" and "male" as nouns are literally wrong.

Anyone my age or younger is a girl. Older is a woman or a lady.

A saw a female with really amazing thighs and a rounded, tight booty.
I said to the female "Nice yoga pants."
The female smiled, and walked away a happier person.

A slur, not it is not.

It's not a slur, but typically when I hear guys call women females outside of, like, a census or doctor's office, there's some weird sexist undertones involved.

Idk man, seems like women = adult and girl = child
I have had a similar hang up to that guy actually. Probably during high school through early university it was nbd to say female/girls for my contemporaries and people younger than me while reserving women for adults who are older than me. But now I am 26 there is obviously an age range of adult women younger than me that just seems wrong to call women in my mind because when I was legally able to drink, on the younger end some of them would literally still been in primary school.

It's just like, a break down of how I viewed myself and the people around me with age I guess. I for one advocate we remove any gender implications from the word "guy" because I'd be perfectly comfortable calling everyone guy no matter age or gender.

I havent seen this addressed yet so I will offer an explanation of where the aversion comes from: females has become a minced oath, particularly by MRA/redpill/incel and hip-hop communities. What is a minced oath you ask? Its when you take a word for phrase that is a curse/swear word, and censor it with either similar sounding or similar meaning words so as to either hide the curse or avoid offense. Some common examples would be gosh darn for goddamn, for crying out loud instead of for Christs sake, or fudge in place of fuck.

Females, in the context that has been used by MRA dipshits or misogynist rappers, is used as a minced oath for bitches. When and why did this happen? I dont know, my guess is it stems partly from the disregard females, acquire currency meme where females is directly translated from bitches in the original rap lyric.

Bottom line is, its not always a slur, but it definitely can be and is sometimes used as one. Context is key, as always.

I would consider femoids to be almost a reverse mincing since its designed to offend. Sort of like how for fucks sake is used in place of for Christs sake to be more offensive. Females is still used, though.
