Funnily enough, she said I should carry a small candy in case the insulin works too well.

Got lab work done at work (as part of my job), and it showed glucose in urine. They told me to go to my PCP to get that checked out. PCP ran a bunch of tests and showed 12% blood sugar levels in my blood.

Not funny, that's pretty common.

It's good that they found it so you can take action now.

Nope. Doctor said she'll recommend me one. She said we're lucky we found this quickly, and she thinks it's my pancreas in shock right now. She ordered more blood work to check liver and kidney functions to see if they were damaged.

She says she hopes that in 2-4 weeks, I can get off injections and go with medication.

my sister was recently diagnosed as prediabetic, scared her shitless.

diabetes is pretty serious but i can handle needles, i think the big one for me would be cancer that would scare me straight.
I'm scared straight right now, as soon as she said I need injections. Nothing changed in my life (diet or exercise); no idea why literally all of a sudden, this is happening (vs last year when I got my physical, and the tear before that...)

Sorry to hear that and always carry candy.

A friend of mine and I went running one morning for exercise. After about 20 minutes his blood sugar dropped so low that he nearly passed out. Luckily, I was able to run back to my car and when I got back to him, he was almost passed out on the ground. When we got back to his house he ate sugary stuff like crazy then crashed out asleep a few minutes later. Later when he felt better, he told me that next time he will bring some candy to avoid this happening.

Be safe.

Are the test strips, lance things, and the machine prescriptions? Or can I just go buy them without a prescription? I ask because the doc prescribed a specific brand (OneTouch), and I want to Google which ones the best and just buy the best one instead.

It sounds like you got diagnosed with type-2 based on how you mentioned moving off injections and onto medications if things go well. Is this correct?

I have type 1. There are quite a few other diabetic users on here as well. Just take the first few days one step at a time and you'll be fine. You'll have this down pat in no time.

One of my biggest fears. I had to take an injection monthly for schizophrenia that was like 4 inches long, but at least it was once a month. Needle every day? Fuck that bro.

You can manage diabetes with exercise and good nutrition. Lots of fruits and veges, no liquid calories like soda and juice, take a fish oil supplement and a multivitamin. Who knows, maybe eating correctly and moving more will get your Pancreas to function better.

Wishing you the best bro.

Yup, that's what the doc said. Injections now, follow up in a couple weeks to see how it's going, and maybe switch to medication.

So to summarize, I didn't really have any symptoms. My work requires me to get annual blood work and urine tests. The urine test showed glucose in the blood. My work doesn't do diabetes blood check, so the work doctor couldn't definitively tell me I had diabetes, but recommended I go to my PCP. So about two weeks later, went to my PCP, got lab work done, and today was the follow up visit.

You can find test strips, lancets, and insulin pen needles on Amazon. Just make sure they are the right size and work with the One Touch kit. I found a few on there and ordered some and they work just fine when I ran out of the accessories that came with the insulin pens and test kit. Insulin can be somewhat pricey but last you atleast almost a month. I pay about $95 for my long-lasting insulin pens. Metformin for me effected my eye sight at first..but after like 3 or 4 weeks, your body adjusts to it. I use Glucerna shakes to help between meals or as a meal if I'm in a rush for work. Definitely do not skip a meal if you can avoid it. You will feel a change in your body, like pains..nerve pains in toes and fingers. There are over the counter medications you can take for that. Wear comfortable shoes if at all possible. When I got diagnosed with Type 2 in June...I had no idea I had diabetes. I was just peeing alot and thirsty as fuck all the time. So I drank alot of sugary drinks..like gallons in a matter of days. Went to a doctor thinking I had a kidney or bladder issue...nope,I got diabetes and was rushed into the hospital that day and there for 5 days til my sugar levels came down from the 800s to a low 100s.

I used to self administer this medication a few years ago and used the needle that was like 6 inches Instead of the 4 inch one. I did this for over a year. I got a new Dr and he used this medication on me and he did the injection, this dude used the small needle, I felt so stupid for using the big one, but I didn't trust the Dr sticking me so I did it myself.

So I still didn't pick up my stuff because the pharmacy is saying my insurance won't cover the brand name for the lance things and the strips that my doctor ordered.

Pharmacy says my insurance will cover Accu-Check brand, but the doctor's office won't approve that brand.

Seriously wtf is going on? I'm on hold (for 20 minutes) with the doctor's office to try to get some explanation.
