Was he actually a comedian in the show? Thought it was Jerry daydreaming because the cast never mention his career

Either way it doesnt matter to me to be honest. When I first started watching the show I didnt really like the standup (because Im just not a fan of standup in general) but it grew on me.

So, I dont miss it when its not there but I dont mind it when it is.

There's an entire storyline about him getting a show based on his standup.

But yeah, I didn't really like it, but it didn't bother me either.

I thought it gave the show a niche element that also meshed in very well.

I always thought his stand up was atrocious. Can't stand Seinfeld, and it was fitting that he was the worst character on his own show.

I like it because it sets the time in the 90s, some of those jokes clearly show that.

I liked it just fine, especially when it related well with what happened in the episode.

It is kind of weird that the stand-up comedian who was the reason for the show being made ended up being the straight man.

The stand-up jokes are hit or miss but I like it because it's part of his character.

I never really laughed at any of it besides a joke or two, but at this point it would be weird for them not to be there. I like how they will tie in to the episode. It's like a little preamble and epilogue or something to the episodes.

Remember that episode when he listen to tapes of the show he did the evening before, and a female voice suddenly start saying sexy stuff?
Or that episode when he gets a van for doing a show?
Or the times when Kramer said you should use that in your show?
Or when that girl makes her own show dissing Jerry and his shows?
Or when Jerry gets angry that another comedian always do his show after Jerry when the public is heated up, so he decides to do a bad show just to give the other comedian a bad show? Who gets saved because Kramer runs around in the background and the other comedian gets a TV show?

Were there episodes without the standup? I don't have a preference here, but I do like the show, so can't vote.

They started to skip them in season 6 and they were all gone in season 8.

This, and I always thought it was supposed to add towards the fact that's what Jerry did when he wasn't in the apt or hanging at the diner.

Like others, I didn't particularly enjoy them, but I got used to it as a part of the show.

The one time I enjoyed it was when the standup was directly used as that episode's plot with the heckler in the audience (the one with the Christmas party). The show ended with his standup as well, which essentially resolved the plot with the heckler.

At the very least it showed him working more often than Friends did.
