Fair enough.
DMC 2 is just at the competent enough level of bad where it's worth seeing through, but you question why you're doing it the entire time.

Slight spoilers: If you beat hard mode with both Dante and Lucia, you unlock Trish as a playable character. She comes with the Sparda sword and plays exactly like Dante from the first game. It's actually a really cool unlockable, with the biggest issue being that you have to beat hard mode with both characters. Meaning you have to beat the game at least 4 times

So I heard about that unlockable, never did it, but they literally just ported Dante from DMC1 over and slapped it on another character? Why couldn't they have done that for Dante himself? Lmao

DMC is and probably always will be my favorite action series of its kind. I didn't hate DMC2, but like most people I didn't actually finish it. Fortunately there's not a lot of story importance, except the part about Dante riding into hell on a motorcycle at the end of the game.

Is it just me or is the camera usually worse than the first? I'm fighting this sword skeleton and he's out of frame like half the time.

I realize now that the first game was good about not switching angles too much in boss battles. This fight though... camera switching galore. Still first try because DMC2 but you know.

Wow, Arius in mission 13 was even easier wtf. Why did he do nothing but summon enemies that don't even attack you?

Literal 1 minute clear time spamming triangle mindlessly.

Also idk if Lucia has the other half of the story but it feels like there's a lot missing here for context.

Just got Ifrit and this is a weapon I understand. Haven't gotten a single S tank combo with the swords and I've gotten 3 in the same mission I got the Ifrit lol. It's probably easier, plus there's a weapon in Bayo 1 based on these that I really like.

Been a while since I played either game, is that the fist weapon and which one in Bayonetta?

It's the fist and it reminds me of the claws I think, because they also are based on charge attacks.

Skeleton 2 had an even worse camera. Am I alone in finding it very difficult to target the enemy I actually want to hit? That fight was annoying because the enemies are constantly off screen or your target is constantly switching.

There's a whole list of reasons why DMC2 is the black sheep of the series. If it's any consolation, all the other entries are awesome. Even DmC, despite its misguided reboot attempt, is a solid experience.

Well, it's over. Arius 2 was a fight with the camera and targeting system. When I got to the final boss I saw it was a giant blob and got real disappointed lol. The second fight was kinda half decent though, it caught me by surprise and I lost a lot of health. Luckily they give you a healing item at the start of the game.

Had some fun until I got DT and yeeted his second health bar away with DT shots. Also that ending was lame af lol. "Time to go all the way to hell!" Really felt this was just some random ass job Dante took of no special importance. Also seems like 90% of the story is in Lucia's game.

It only took 2:36 in game time so I think I'll go ahead and run through with Lucia. Shouldn't take too long i imagine.

I'll give my overall feelings after that.

What's the good stuff to upgrade with Lucia?

DMC2 is terrible but the stories behind the development are fascinating.

I don't think it's ever been revealed who the original director was, but they got six months in with their team and all they really had was the animation for Stinger, which is the worst Stinger in the series. Capcom dropped him and brought in Itsuno to pound out the game in 4-6 months.

Itsuno then begged Capcom to let him do DMC3 so he wouldn't be known as the guy who made DMC2.

Well Lucia's final boss was WAY easier. I was correct in assuming the majority of the story was in her campaign. 1:39 clear in game time.

Anyway, I found her marginally more enjoyable. Her air attacks are nice and her combos are pretty fun to use. However, this game is probably most let down by its basic enemy design. All the enemies are extremely easy and boring to fight, and the vast majority of them can be run right past (which i usually did). They're basically just fodder to farm DT once in a while. There's basically no incentive to fight them since you don't really need extra orbs to beat the bosses anyway. No new weapons to freshen up the combat and experiment with combos, all swords that play the same with no unlockable abilities. Pistols cheese almost everything. Really dumb boss AI all over the place.

The story is also basically nonexistent, and there's nothing coherent really connecting any of the environments. It's very easy to see all the bad decisions the rushed development led to. I don't regret playing it, but I won't be playing it again nor would I recommend anybody play it.

Next it'll be DMC3.

Yep. It's also a fanmade mod on the PC version which is probably what inspired that added feature.

Got through the flying whale level in 3 today. Only thing i really didn't like so far was the flying centipede boss. But my skills from DMC1 are transferring over real nicely, especially with the sword.

The game seems easier than DMC1 on normal, but that may just be because I'm already used to the controls. Will be playing 4SE after this, but idk if it'll be immediately.

IIRC the original US DMC3 release before SE had messed up difficulty settings. Normal in the US release was the Japanese version's hard, and so on. They fixed it later with the SE.

That's a big part of it. DMC1, for all its kickassery, is more sluggish and awkward in general than DMC3, which up until DMC5 was widely considered to be the best in the series.

I ended up getting DMC4 special edition. I know opinions are mixed, but I hear it's still decent.

I'm wondering if I should just get DMC5 soon or wait a bit until more SE information is available. I doubt I'll be touching any SE content anyway on my first run through anyway, but I kinda want to know for sure what the purchase options are.

DMC4 has awesome combat and it's a fun game. A lot of the mixed opinion comes from switching the main playable character and a fair amount of backtracking/retreading, although Dante comes in later

DMC4 has absolutely fantastic combat but it's clearly rushed and reuses areas and bosses in the back half.

Also depends on how much you like Nero and his gameplay, I love JYB so Nero's great for me.

Either way, I know they expand on it in the sequel now lol. The big complaint I hear about Nero is that he's too simple/basic.

Anyway, as you can see when I play 3 I don't feel the desire to post nearly as often as when play 2. But that's just because I'm having more fun with the game. I'll probably play some more later tonight, but I'll be visiting my parents on Saturday so if I don't beat 3 tomorrow I'll have to remember to bump this topic over the weekend lol.

4 is decent but for some reason I really don't enjoy playing Dante in that game. The enemies seem more annoying to fight against for him. You got the SE so you got Vergil who is the most fun to use.

The issue with it is how rushed and unfinished the mission structure is. You basically go through the game, switch characters, and go backwards.

As far as DMC 5, I'd say wait for the SE since it's the base game with extras, unless you just don't want to drop 40 bucks on it. My only concern is if it's gonna have the extras that came with the deluxe edition like the extra weapons and battle music.

Current gen just gets Vergil as paid DLC. The next gen versions are getting extra modes. Turbo speed and Legendary Dark Knight, also in DMC 4 which is a mode where there are a ton more enemies in every fight.

Also it's ray tracing and higher FPS performance if you care about that sort of thing.

Beowulf is probably my least favourite boss in DMC3 (aside from the Jester shit they added in the special edition). It's so awkward to dodge his shit at a range and the cumbersome dodge system tends to let me get punched by his double uppercuts at close range. And dude is a fucking tank.
