Any tips on this game btw? Only played through the first few chapters. Only other games I've played like this one are the two Bayonetta games and MGR.

I played this series for the first time in the beginning of the year... and I really enjoyed it. Always thought I wouldn't like the games and they'd be too difficult but they're actually great besides the 2nd one, which is absurdly bad, even with everyone's warnings about it.

When you play through DMC 2, remember that the game was only in actual development for about 4 months.

That doesn't make the game any better, but it's actually pretty phenomenal for a four month game.

This game is kinda interesting in that it feels like it's wreck or be wrecked. Health bars all around in the beginning are low, and you die in very few hits, so every encounter is really quick. Sometimes it's so fast I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or even right lol.

Beat that first sword boss, and it was kinda surprising how many attacks he could be hit out of. Either way, the fight took like a minute on my successful attempt, with the lesson being spam devil trigger lol.

It gets a lot harder later on. I used to play the hell out of DMC on PS2, but I played it on easy. I picked up the HD collection a couple of years back and god damn, normal mode kicked my ass. I never did beat it, but I got as far as Nightmare 3

Funny thing is the HD collection has the easier Japanese difficulties. So the HD collection is actually a little easier than what you experienced on PS2.

As an aside, all I supposed to just shoot these shadow dogs until the orb pops out? Seems like the only thing that doesn't instantly kill me with spike damage.

My gripe right now is the fact that this game has a lives system. It's not a super important thing since the missions seems short... but idk if they'll stay that way.

Most of them aren't very long. A lot of the difficulty later on comes from the fact that health and devil trigger items go up in price every time you buy one, and I don't know if they ever come back down again lol

I never buy items in these kinds of games so I might have to break old habits to get through this one lol.

Just fought that goat skull thing in the sewers. The first time I killed him I back tracked to pick up some stuff and it respawned.

Having a decent time. Most of the things I don't like can sort of be chalked up to PS2 jank and the being the beginning of this kind of game.

Just got Ifrit and this is a weapon I understand. Haven't gotten a single S tank combo with the swords and I've gotten 3 in the same mission I got the Ifrit lol. It's probably easier, plus there's a weapon in Bayo 1 based on these that I really like.

DMC has the best melee combat. Wait till you get to 3 with Distorted Real Impact.

Also there's an item in DMC1's endgame that turns up in Bayo.

Just beat Vergil 3. I've basically had the whole series spoiled for me btw so don't worry about that too much lol.

First part where I've died more a bunch in a while. The last was probably those shadow dogs. Ended up going with Ifrit. The charge attacks were very effective, and something about the pace of it is just easier to control and the stagger feels more natural. I'm getting betterwith the sword though.

After playing Bayonetta 2 a bunch of DMC 5 related videos showed up on my YouTube feed. Got me pretty interested.

The funny thing is it's Kingdom Hearts at high difficulty that got me into action games. Those games are easy af on normal, but when you crank up the difficulty it gets the heart pumping. So the difficulty in this game honestly isn't so bad once I got the controls down.

To chalk DMC2's issues up to it being boring is rather silly. Yes, it is boring and yes, it is easy. But much more significantly, it's just terrible to play. Combat movement is awful, combat combos are nearly non-existent, most things are most easily dealt with by standing still out of melee range and shooting, and most of the time you're traversing a giant empty world that takes forever to cross with a couple of boring, easy enemies thrown in there with no regard to encounter design. Interesting weapon design? Gone. Interesting enemy design? Gone. Fun secret missions that challenge your abilities with the systems of the game in unique ways? Let's replace them with bad and non-unique combat encounters all set in the same square room.

Easily one of the worst games ever made outside of Steam Greenlight.

Like, I cant even imagine what it would take to S rank missions in this game. There's fucking nothing to the combat.

It's short and easy but it's pitifully boring, and a lot of that has to deal with what DeadBankerDream said.

As much shit as the reboot gets it's a way better game than 2.

Wow, I honestly think this fight is really bad. Between the inverted shoot em up section that takes forever without cheese and dealing with the terrible platforming in the second part. I'm thinking about getting max devil stars and just cheesing both parts.

Well, just beat it. Decided to cheese the shoot em up section by spamming devil stars. The fight after isn't bad if you get decent platforming rng and you know how to avoid the attacks. Tbh i was REALLY hoping there would be another, "real" final boss after, but alas....

Very fun game overall. I'd say solid throughout aside from the water levels and the (imo) crappy final boss. Difficulty wasn't as bad as I was expectingt least the water levels were short though. Up next I'll give 2 a shot.

The first game is the only one in the series that I haven't beaten on DMD because of the final boss. It's so damn annoying on that mode.

Well, or 2 because there was no way in hell that I was playing through that slog again.

To add on to things I liked: I really liked how quick most fights were. The body or be bodied kind of design kept the pace really brisk. You take a lot of damage but it feels like you fish a lot of damage. GoW is kind of the opposite in some ways. In that game it can feel like you've been wacking on guys forever. And while I haven't played the hard mode of DMC yet, I know I'm nowhere near high damage or effectiveness compared to what is possible.

Anyway, I played the first chapter of 2. The lack of delay combos is fucking with me, and the enemies really don't do much at all. I can already see why the fans didn't like it in part lol

The best advice anyone can give for 2 is: use the handguns. You can juggle most enemies just by shooting them. They don't even need to be in the air, they'll just float up off the ground.

Yeah I've decided to not look for any secrets in this one. There doesn't seem to be much reason to when the enemies don't attack you and when they do they do hilariously low damage. Also DT pistols obliterates health bars for no reason. And I don't want to waste more time walking around these giant levels.

Well I unintentionally looped the AI of this fire minotaur boss. He kept doing an attack where he spun his hammer and sucked me in, so I just spammed square and held back during the suck. Took 2 and a half of this 3 health bars off before he stopped, after which I just deleted his health bar with DT guns.

Probably. While this is bad, it's not so offensively bad that I couldn't play some more just to see. Just beat mission 9 (run back through the level you just went through woohoo) and I'm at 1:23 IGT so it's not like it would take super long I imagine.
