So I hear. Is that true? I mean, what's the point if the philosophy/theology of it is that when you die you just blank out and that's it?

I've always been a little confused on this. I think they do have an afterlife maybe, they just don't focus on it. Shintoism is kinda like this too. that's a religion where they do say there is some kind of afterlife but the religion doesn't really teach much about it or what to expect. just that it's "nice" and you can meet your ancestors I think

It's one of the things I've always preferred about eastern religion. The focus is more often on bettering yourself now rather than trying to jump through a series of hoops to get into some magical gated community after you die.

there's different schools of thought on it. but anyway, why is having an afterlife a big deal? kinda weird that's a big reason why people would believe in something. you should believe something because you think it's true, not because you think you'll get something out of it
