this is being posted across multiple forums, so forgive me if this isn't formatted to the likings of the particular venue.

Do you have any old computing devices going to waste? Do you have any high-spec devices able to join a worthy cause when you're not at the helm?

please consider joining Folding@Home. they're trying to borrow your unused clock cycles across multiple devices for a distributed computing project. among other worthy causes, they're trying to cure diseases like Alzheimers and i dunno, Covid-19.

i wouldn't leave it running on a main device if you're trying to game or remotely work, but surely there's no harm in loaning out your cores while you sleep.

full disclosure, it will cook any device it runs on. the app is very good at what it does if you're not using it. it can be turned off entirely if you need full power. it can run in the background only when you're idle.

but its a near-effortless way to contribute to a worthy cause.

go to https://foldingathome.org/ and dowload the appropriate client for you device. dick around with the settings if you like. consider joining the old SBA team #Team 171916 if you liike to get the old momentum going, do it as a lone wolf if you like.

you're not wrong, however i would suggest that helping to find cures for multiple diseases while you're afk is worth the cost of running a 40w lightbulb.
