So here's the chain of events from earlier this year. This is actually on my fiance's BoA account, but through my Expedia account:

-Booked Honeymoon for June earlier this year
-COVID happened
-In April or May we had to cancel the Honeymoon since June wedding wasn't happening (Expedia was directing people to wait and not cancel early, to see what happens with COVID)
-We were refunded from various hotels that we booked both through independent hotels and Expedia
-The Airline ($2,000) was also done through Expedia. Requested a refund through Expedia, which was approved on their end via a chat with an Expedia representative
-After several weeks, the charges were never refunded
-Contacted them again, and they said they put it through, it'll be a few more weeks
-After something like 5-8 weeks, still no refund. Contact Expedia again, they say they did everything on their end and it's showing as sitting with the bank, and the bank has to approve it (wtf?)
-We contacted (my fiance's) bank, and Bank of America said they are not seeing anything from their end
-BoA said they will put a dispute in for the charge, since Expedia is claiming they put in the refund on their end
-A week or two later my fiance gets a letter from BoA saying they are investigating, and crediting her account
-That was probably 6-8 weeks ago
-Today she gets a notice saying they cannot further investigate the dispute with the external vendor, and the charge is now back on her account

WTF

We never saw the refund from Expedia. Them claiming they put the refund through and it is sitting with the bank is bizarre, because any other time I've gotten a refund from a vendor, it goes through automatically.

I'm about to blast the fuck out of some companies on Twitter. We're going to obviously have to contact Bank of America and see wtf is going on.

What the hell kind of recourse do we have here? 2K is a lot of money to lose on this.

Take them (Bank of America) to small claims court and they will probably settle for $2k.

That sounds awful and that I'd lose more than I'd gain

You'd only lose a little bit of time. You don't need a lawyer for this. Just file suit yourself and they will literally pay you the money to drop the lawsuit.

Nice, thanks. I'll definitely look into that

I'm not sure if the DCCA is a thing where you live, but we (meaning the Attorney General's office) generally tell people to contact the Office of Consumer Protection when they have problems of this nature with businesses. A lot of people ask us what to do, but unfortunately what they're asking is against regulations as it could constitute legal advice :<

Just blasted them on Twitter (which I originally did months ago), and they want to look into it again for me (Expedia).

We'll see.

I'm sure this won't resolve it, but I'm also prepared to blast them in a petty way every single day

Not to be a dick, but I literally stopped reading after the second line. COVID started in March so if you booked anything after that you dont deserve your money back.

I didn't even say in this topic what month I booked the Honeymoon, and I really don't care what you read in this topic tbh

All you need to know is we followed Expedia's guidelines for cancelling the honeymoon, which they covered and said was approved.

Prior to saying COVID, he never said anything about arranging plans after things shut down. He said earlier in the year (basically, prior to the pandemic shutting things down), he booked for June.

It absolutely matters when you booked it. Not to mention most booking agencies have an act of god clause.

Like I said, Expedia approved the refund. I received the refund for the hotel, which was part of the same transaction as the airline, which I did not receive the refund for.

That said, I looked back on my bookings and I booked everything in February.

If everything was booked in February then I believe you are entitled to refund.

If it helps, Banks cant hold or block incoming ACH (your fiances account and routing number were used for Expedia?) so its something on Expedia or the airlines end.

If it wasnt ACH and you used a debit card number did you by chance replace that card since then? If so it would be prudent to give Expedia updated info to credit.

Thanks, it was a credit card. Expedia has told me that it has gone back to the credit card and cited the last four digits of the card number in my communications with them. She hasn't had a new credit card number since any of this has happened.

Still kinda fighting with Expedia to get more details right now, and will have to call the bank tomorrow. So frustrating.
