this and $60 games have been the norm for like 15 years now. $60 in 2006 is the equivalent of almost $80 today. Im all for cheaper games but it just isnt realistic.

The base price of the game is often only a portion of the revenue now. Tons of DLC and such. They're not gonna ditch that easy money now that the base price has increased.
And I don't think it's true that dev costs are higher, either.
For the crazies that fap to "realism" and want insane level of texture detail for fucking grass and stuff, maybe. But if you're a developer who doesn't care about that shit, then new tools and engines have made the general process to develop a game easier and cheaper, at least enough to counteract other factors that have gotten pricier.
If you think it costs EA more money to copy/paste the latest Madden game with updated rosters than it cost them to initially develop the engine and mechanics the games have run on ever since, you're out of your mind.

Apparently they took the Demon's Souls trailer down, and there's some speculation that it might be PS5 exclusive after all?

Costs have gone up, and inflation as well, but in mean time digital is pure profit for them, while disc drains about 30% of the profit. I have objected for along time that digital costs as much as physical copies because of this.

While a 10% increase makes sense to cover increased costs to make the game and inflation etc, digital should have finally had the price dropped instead of just being pure extra profit, that is a net 20% less cost for them, yet they are increasing the price of games by almost 15% as well (both digital and physical).

I would honestly have just gone with the same price for physical games ($60 base), and dropped digital by 20%, to $48 a game. That is still a bit of extra money per digital sale (30% of a $60 game means they were making 42$ per physical game sold before), which would compensate for the minor loss on physical copies (but the significant reduction in cost for digital would make people WAY more likely to buy htem, which would reduce the number of people buying used, and selling used, which means way more over all profit for the actual game makers.

IT would have of course destroyed Gamestop, but honestly the digital only consoles are probably going to do that anyway.

The point is, there was no reason to increase game costs to $70, when they have literally saved themselves 30% already on digital sales, and been doing that for awhile.

It's a PS5 exclusive at launch but only timed, it'll be on PC later.

But I may get a PS5 just for that as it does look incredible.

The new FF game is also a ps5 console exclusive, but available eventually on pc.

Honestly i'll have to choose between getting a new PC that can play VR, or the PS5....and how long it'll be before demon souls comes to PC will be a big factor there.

Yeah, that is a big reason why I pretty much never play my ps4, and don't buy many games on it/for it. Other than VR games basically (since it's my only VR setup).

Even now, the only game they listed that is only on PS5 that I wanna play (and I don't care that much) is the new ratchet and clank. I still have not even touched the one for ps4 though....so yeah, no rush there at all.

At $400 though, it's significantly cheaper then even building my own VR desktop system (probably at least $800 with a decent GPU), and that is not including the cost of the actual VR setup.

So I could keep going with my PSVR I guess and just get a PS5 and hope they get better VR games for it, and allow customized maps for beat saber etc. I guess I could do the Occulus Quest (the portable one), but I hear it's not really that great (not much better than PSVR basically).

I could always just get both, but I just don't game enough to really make that worth it anymore.

Ratchet is PS5 only due to using the SSD so that's at least one reason to buy a PS5 eventually.

R&C isn't a launch title either I think.

Honestly Demon souls is either going to be an exclusive or a timed exclusive, and if you look at the gameplay, it looks better than Dark souls 3 (combat wise) and of course the graphics are better as well. It's a full remake from the ground up (so no old clunky combat etc).

I may buy one just because of that, at launch, because i'll probably EVENTUALLY buy a system anyway. I don't need a disk, and $400 is pretty freaking cheap over all.

If they offered backwards compatibility for ps4 digital titles that I already own, I could sell my ps4 pro in fact and prob end up only spending like $200 for the upgrade all together, almost all my ps4 games are digital (and VR) at this point other than:

Spiderman, Horizon, Persona 5, Dragon Quest Builders and 1 or 2 more...oh ....damn my Bloodborn is in disc format grrrrr.

I wonder if you get the disc version of the ps5 would it play ps4 games? Even if so, it's prob just cheaper to rebuy them on the ps5 at this point in digital format. Bloodborne has been like $10 multiple times and I already own the DLC (which is digital).

Of course. The digital is the same thing just without a disc drive. The thing is with a all digital you'll be stuck buying from PS store and some games are not cheap. I bought physical Hitman 2 gold edition for 25. On the PS store for Hitman 2 and the season pass it'll cost me 90. Go figure.

Hmmm backwards compatibility hasn't always been assured. Even if there is a digital version of a ps3 game for instance you can't put a ps3 game in your ps4 and play it (Sadly, I have a ton of em, and have not powered on my ps3's for over 2 years).

IF you can play your ps4 games on the ps5, that will pretty much cement me just flat out pre-ordering a ps5 and selling my ps4 pro, cause why not (other then having to re-download my games onto the ps5 it's pure gain).

Then your talking about $200 total for the system upgrade basically.

Halo Infinite is in a similar boat for Xbox. Meaning that there isn't much of a reason to get a PS5 or XSX yet.

But wait... Demon's Souls is a launch title?!
I may get one at launch after all, maybe...

Edit: And as for PS4 backwards compatibility, all major first party and third party games should be backwards compatible. Although I hope we see an actual list of incompatible BC games soon.

I believe the PS5 version outright will cost more. This means buying the PS4 version and getting the free next gen upgrade would be the better and cheaper idea with cross gen games.
