Cheating pisses most normal people off, and disease is something almost everyone wants to avoid. If your honest about not seeking a relationship and are being safe to avoid diseases though its not a problem.

The man or woman may appear to others as being flighty, unable to commit to a relationship. For those seeking a stable long term relationship, promiscuity may appear to be a less than desirable trait.

As with any excess, it has the potential to lend to mental issues, especially dealing with commitment and fulfillment. Someone who may want to truly settle down could eventually find it's much harder to find someone and truly commit to them. And then the possible issues if it's unsafe sex. Obviously, that's not set in stone for everyone, but more of an in general thing.

Having a fam and being in a monogamous relationship - and all the extras that come with that lifestyle projection - is definitely still a current trend. Its omnipresent in our societal makeup. And it doesnt really have anything explicitly to do with Americas Puritan heritage since its the same in most of the world, with the exceptions being cultures that endorse polygamy.
