Anything that harms landlords is good. Theres no reason for landlords to exist.
However, that doesnt make the chinese government any less repulsively evil for everything else they do. And this method of getting rid of landords isnt good.

You're a QLDer, right? Last year I bought an apartment in Morningside for 400k. I plan on living here for 5-6 years and then using the equity in growth and the dent we put into the mortgage to buy another home for my wife and I and hopefully our future kids to live in. What's wrong with me then renting the apartment out as an investment? Or in your world, should I just sell the apartment and then buy my next one?

A lot of my in-laws in China are landlords and I haven't heard anything about this. If you upset the party they take your stuff but it has nothing to do with socialism. It's a system where the government and corporations are one and the same. The millionaires and billionaires in China, the capitalist class, etc. are high ranking Communist party members. However, especially now under Xi, if you go against the party line you risk losing all your wealth. I honestly don't even know what most of my in-laws opinions on issues are because it never gets talked about. They also don't call themselves landlords, even though that's what they are. I think most people in the West badly understand China and think socialism or communism has anything to do with how it functions behind rhetoric. It's a capitalist system, but it functions very differently from Western countries with a far more direct relationship between the capitalist class and government.

Why shouldnt you sell it and move on? Housing should not be an "investment".

That's not true. The actual people paid to spread propaganda are paid very little. The rich people's children in China might get a placeholder government job or something, but they don't actually have to go around brainwashing people or anything. I mean you can meet a lot of them at overseas universities and they often don't know about or care about communism (most people cheat on the exams related to it in school anyway). The nationalism you see from many Chinese is genuine, they aren't being paid to think it. But they certainly don't believe in or care about socialism/communism. I don't think I have ever met a Chinese person who actually believes in those ideologies, there is actually quite a lot of hate for Western left wing people on the Chinese internet. In many ways the prevailing views you see online look like the stuff you see from Trumpers. Very much about China being the best, Han culture and people being the best, foreigners and immigrants being bad, etc. The type of stuff you see tankies posting here or on Reddit doesn't get much attention in China (and a lot of it would be censored since it challenges the legitimacy of the regime).

In general I think people should actually go to China and see what it is like for themselves because it's a lot of Wild West Capitalism with a police state thrown on top. No protections for workers, renters, etc. is the norm and people selling things without any kind of regulations or permits are everywhere (actually one of my favorite things was seeing a group of women take an absolutely massive pile of wares and roll it up inside a giant sheet before running into the bathroom with it near the Great Wall, a short while later police came by but they were already gone).

What the right and left in the West spew online about China, and what China is actually like, aren't the same thing at all.

Reminds me of a tweet thread I saw about the surveillance shit that's been reported in western media. Like the stuff about how China are doing face recognition on everyone and for even the smallest infraction they will revoke your right to travel. It turned out it was a lot less extreme and a lot more... on par with any country really, and most of those claims came from some unsubstantiated text that everyone kept citing.

Actually r/communism and most other allegedly communist sub-reddits ban anyone that is critical of the CCP and come up with all kinds of justifications for why capitalism is actually good. Allegedly it will all disappear in the future and the vanguard millionaires and ruling class will give all the money and wealth to the people. The people just have to wait for glorious capitalism to create conditions for them to get a piece of the pie.

The majority of people on r/socialism are also pro-CCP and defend capitalism. If you want actual leftists you have to go to like r/anarchy or a few other subs. Western socialism/communism is often just a defense force for capitalist states that are authoritarian and claim to be communist/socialist or just don't like the West (they love to defend Russia and Iran too for whatever reason). It's honestly frustrating because I want to discuss actual socialist ideas but the mainstream representation is just authoritarian capitalism and its defenders and people in the US often think socialism is just government doing stuff so there isn't really much possibility to have a real discussion.
