I just finished a long play session of SMT Nocturne. I'm right at the end of the game - I beat Mot earlier (got him on my first go) and I've gone back to the Amala Temple and all that.
The way I've been playing this game is that I only open item chests at full kagutsuchi, so there's a lot of running in circles and fighting random battles. I got like three incenses from doing this in the dungeon I'm up to, so I feel justified in doing it. But a lot of what I'm doing involves keeping an eye on the encounter meter in the bottom right corner. I want to get as far as possible with as few random battles as possible, because I'm already fighting so many monsters while I wait for full kagutsuchi. So I switch the game off, and I pick up my phone and start scrolling. And I get that same pang of paranoia, like "wait am I moving as efficiently as I can? If I scroll too fast am I gonna get into a random battle I could have avoided?" Which is insane, because there's nothing in common between playing SMT Nocturne and scrolling through my phone. I'm looking forward to finishing this game. I returned to it after I started Persona 5, because it reminded me so much of Nocturne in the enemy choices and how they all look. --- There are no pan-asian supermarkets down in hell, so you can't buy Golden Boy peanuts. Nocturne is definitely one of the GOAT PS2 games. Looking forward to the remaster.
