A Robot Named Fight is one of my favorite indie games. I played it to a point where I had 98% of the items unlocked, and I still revisit it from time to time. It really nails that heavy Super Metroid jump, and the map is procedurally generated every time so every game is unique.

It's your standard roguelike/roguelite gameplay: when you die, you lose all of your upgrades and you have to start from scratch. Every game has you finding upgrades and new weapons like in Metroid to prepare you against your fight with the Megabeast, an eldritch meat monster that's waging war on robotkind. If your favorite part of Metroidvanias is uncovering new power-ups and secrets, you might enjoy A Robot Named Fight.

It recently got a new update, and it's on sale for 50% off the base price. You can get it on Steam or on the Nintendo Switch. If you wanna see gameplay before you buy it, Vinesauce has a 7 part playthrough of it with 3-4 runs per video.

Legit, I'm not a big fan of challenge runs, but I dedicated myself to a run where I couldn't collect more than 15% of the available items and a run where I had to beat the game in 35 minutes. This game is incredible, and I implore you to give it a go if you're a Metroid fan.

I get what you mean. I think I've put about 50 hours into this game, and I've seen pretty much all of the chunks the game uses.

It's a fair complaint, but I still love this game a ton and I think it's great.

My reaction exactly. Cant get into roguelikes. Dead Cells was fun for like 8 hours then I just got tired always starting from scratch.

i dont want games to waste as many hours of my time as possible

i want a well designed beginning to end experience whether its 5 or 25 hours

Gameplay looks neat, but yeah I'm really not super into Roguelikes. I can really only have any fun with Roguelites and they're still not optimal. I wish these developers would take the product and make a crafted story mode as well. I get the ease of crafting pieces and letting an algorithm do the bulk of the work, but it would make things much more interesting to be able to play something designed with balance.

I've played the Boss Rush mode a couple of times. I dunno whether I like it as much as the sketchier Easter Egg version that you could play by entering a code.

The Mechanical Gods have new animations in their rooms, I swear to God. It looks awesome. There are also doorways that require the electrical weapon to get through, which is a change - compared to different blocks and switches which require an electrical charge to get past. I dunno if I like that.

But yeah, this is just one more coat of polish on a game that was already incredibly fun to begin with.

Honestly this game gets repetitive. The enemies, the lack of unique biomes, the fact that it feels like you're on 1 of 3 upgrade paths every run... roguelikes are supposed to feel replayable but every run feels the same

Out of 5 runs i've only gotten a single save room on 2 runs, so its pretty random if you get one or not, or if you're even gonna get to them before you die or completely miss them

It's a hard game. Every map has two save points after your first run, guaranteed - you just don't know what Zone they're gonna be in. You might get a save point in Zone 1 if you're lucky, but it's possible to get one in Zone 2 and Zone 3, so you won't have a safety net for a while.

Also, one thing I'm not a big fan of - the Crystal Caves are really difficult to clear. The last update before this one added it in, and I'm still not fully used to it.

I tend to not have issues until i get to the last zone where everything hits like a truck and refuses to drop HP, also the god damn fucking factory boss that is like a mega fistula that splits into those floating flesh that shoot bolts at you... holy shit fuck that boss.

Also i swear that getting to the final boss without a weapon that can pierce targets is a doomed run, has been for me every single time.
