Depends. I choose which bender?
Water is pretty strong, and provides low level healing
Earth basically is pure power, but could also be amazing for farming, landscaping, terraforming, construction.
Air, besides personal flight and transport, would easily deal with fires by removing oxygen,
Fire of course could also do something about fires, but little else. Weld? Cook, though we already have a stove...

Jedi gives basic telekinesis, some precog, mind tricks.
If you are really good you get things like healing, lift real heavy stuff, and lightning. Could be good, kinda a jack of all towards bending. Get powerful lifting, healing, agility.
Hm...
I'm unsure.

I think earth bending is the best. You could literally roll on a rock superfast, build a house, shoot rocks at things, giant landslides, make pottery move toward you.

Air is basically force push and pull at your command.

Tbh, earth bending is shown as super op and way above the rest in the show and it makes sense. Earth is everywhere except on an airplane or a boat.

ehh, I kinda disagree that it's shown as super OP. They did a wonderful job of balancing the elements, and the winner would likely be determined based on the skill of the bender. Obviously given a fair field: an earth bender would likely defeat a water bender in the desert.

Fire benders look super weak throughout the series until sozen comet.

Water looks somewhat strong but an earth bender can literally just toss half a mountain at them.
Like Tuf could defeat any badguy in the show alone, they just don't write it that way.

Air is pretty strong too as Aang early on can just blow at anyone and slam them 20 feet away. If the show had realistic damage that would be lethal.

Ofc if the show was realistic in damage, fire would look stronger but still, chugging flames at a giant boulder wouldn't prevent it from smashing you.

That would have to be a really strong earth bender, like Bumi or Toph strong. Your average earthbender is not going to be throwing half a mountain. Honestly, if you look at the earthbender mooks in the show they're not any better than the mooks of the other elements.

And yet no firebender came close to them until sozin comet.

The same was true in Korra. Even explosion mind people not close to their power.

And funny thing is, that isn't even top tier earth bending. Lava bending is.

Firebending's strength in TLA ended up being facilitating the ability for the Fire Nation to industrialize so much compared to the other nations.

Aside from the rare lightning bending and explosions, it was a less directly powerful bending style than water or earth, but had more technological utility.

Technically, Waterbending and Airbending are the most OP. Waterbenders can just bloodbend an opponent and make them kill themselves. And in The Legend of Korra we saw that you dont even need a full moon to bloodbend. Airbending is OP because you can bend all the oxygen out of someones lungs like they did in LOK. Earthbending has the most practical uses which is why Id choose it

Honestly I'd much rather be a Bender. Jedis have to watch out for that dark side shit taking over their identity and destroying them, whereas Benders just have to worry about normal physical and psychological consequences of their actions. I want to wreck things without magical consequences.

Yeah, looking into averages, the earthbender has crazy variety.
Let's look closer.
Waterbending: You can control the temperature of water. This can allow you to freeze open locks, boil water quickly for quicker cooking, steam based machinery(if one is inventive) is easier to power.
You can heal people. The extent without spirit water isn't shown. Presumably you can close wounds, and heal torn muscle. MAYBE a broken bone, definitely a fracture I'd say. Illnesses are probably a no go. You could also purify toxic water.
With practice you can bloodbend even without a full moon, but it wouldn't be easy, and what really are the practical applications unless you're gonna be in fights?
The healing is a big draw, because I'd like to be of use to help with powers. You don't need to be crazy good to do it.

Earthbending has great showings because we got two great users. Katara was a great waterbender, but waterbending is more subtle.
Remember that she flash froze herself and Azula, then melted the ice around herself to swim inside it and tie Azula up.
That is ridiculous, and would just as easily work on a powerhouse like Toph, though tying would be useless.

I still think a moderate earthbender could plow entire fields, demolish buildings, and do decent construction easily. Just moving dirt and rock.
One usually doesn't need to throw a mountain.
Probably not going to stop huge wildfires in one tsunami of dirt unless you're real strong.
Definitely a contender. Really between Water and Earth.

In Korra, lightning bending got mainstreamed. A friend mentioned that as time went on, perhaps the mysticism surrounding it was dispelled as more was understood, and it actually got easier to do, meaning you could figure it out
Fire however is just too straightforward. You would be the best firefighter in the world. Maybe you could power a generator with electricity, make some money of it?
You could also likely suck the body heat off someone Dio style and cause hypothermia, though I don't see the use.

I can't think of anything I haven't already mentioned with air. No way you could stop storms or anything, unless you capitalized on Jin or something. So, rarely if ever.

With Jedi it depends on the canon.
Force healing is canon, and can heal open wounds, so that's good.
Average telekinesis could float a person, ie you. Lifting car size objects is typically for stronger force users. Useful, but no powerhouse.
Focusing on mental powers though, you can hypnotize and root out secrets. Very powerful, and more subtle than things like benders do. This alone has potential, though most of it dastardly, one could potentially root out corrupt individuals, and force them to confess.
Quite powerful! That and potential healing along with precog and the telekinesis...
It's between Jedi and Waterbending for me. Earth a close 3rd. Maybe beats out jedi depending on how likely healing and mental trickery is.

Why is it when these sorts of topics comes up, people start bringing up Amon and Luke like that's what you're going to be able to do? Most of yall would end up like Bumi in Korra, where it's far too late for you to do anything impressive.

Unless I'm an airbender, I think I'd rather have force abilities. Even novice airbenders seem like they're able to prevent falling to their deaths, and do basic air blasts. Any of the other elements besides maybe water would cause too much collateral damage, which matters unless you're out of civilization. At least force users seem like they'd have passive clairvoyance.
