Like if the expectation is that people have internet access anyways then it shouldn't matter if a PS5 version installs from disc vs downloading.

Probably to cut down on size but yeah kinda pointless to have a modern console without an internet connection at this point.

Ubisoft is selling separate physical disc copies of the PS4 and PS5 versions of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, for example, despite the fact buying the PS4 version gets you the PS5 version for free.

Meanwhile there is one single copy for Xbox.

Lmao that's dumb

I mean I guess maybe it's for the people who want to have a PS5 case for their game?

Though could just do what Microsoft is doing where they just have "Xbox" on the cases now

far cry 6 isn't part of the bunch on digital. only giving the ps5 upgrade if you buy a certain edition.
in all honesty if planning on both lists. it's cheaper to get that one edition.

I'm pretty sure Far Cry 6 has the free upgrade regardless of which version you buy, at least going by Ubi's wording.

Off the top of my head the only games I know aren't doing it for free are NBA 2k21 and Control (you HAVE to buy the new complete edition, just having the base game from the original release or the deluxe edition gets you nothing).

To be fair control has been out for months. The vast majority of games are either upcoming titles or free to play shooters like destiny 2 or fortnite. The only current game I can think of outside of that that's getting upgraded for free is witcher 3. Remedy isn't a villain for asking people to pay up twice. Especially since the consoles are backwards compatible anyway. It's not like your losing your current copy, your just not getting new features and better loading. It is what it is.

I think the main problem with Control is that the Ultimate Edition doesn't actually contain anything the Deluxe Edition didn't originally. At that point they might as well have just made it a PS5-only title, would have pissed people off way less.

Plus they accidentally "upgraded" Deluxe Edition owners to the Ultimate Edition yesterday anyways despite previously claiming they couldn't do such a thing
