I did regular maintenance but SOMETHING was always broken -- aside from the thing actually breaking down 1-4 times a year for any number of reasons, the non essential parts were an absolute mess. By the end of its life at 160k miles I just stopped fixing things and it was comical how many things were broken. We always took a road trip every year in college and the truck broke down on every road trip for five years in a row.

I bought a Subaru with 120k on it two years ago and I haven't fixed ANYTHING

no wonder no one buys american made bullshit cars

I've been pretty lucky with my Dodge so far, got it new over five years ago and I've always heard how awful Dodge cars are

I'll probably get a Toyota when it finally dies

how old is your subaru? i'm in the market for a vehicle and everything i can afford has over 100k miles

it's a 2010

I think there are a few years (2006-2008?) that had a bad part and needed major repairs at 120k mi and people were selling theirs super cheap at 110k, so watch out for that. Can't remember the exact details though

not getting regular oil changes can! lol

Idk man, my last car was a 1987 Toyota Camry. I got it with god knows how many miles on it (odometer was stuck at like 170k or something like that) and the previous owner had it for two years and didn't remember the last time he changed the oil.

I changed it when I bought it and put about 15k more miles on it before selling it and also didn't do an oil change

That thing started up instantly after sitting in a driveway after a week of below zero temperatures while my wife's car, a 2 year old Jeep at the time, needed a jump start

I'm convinced I could have parked it at the bottom of a lake and fished it out a few years later and it'd still get me to work

Edit: though by far the best car I've ever owned was my 1999 Nissan Maxima GLE. Bought with 230k miles and it ran like new, even the AC worked perfectly. Lasted til about 275k when I sold it to my brother-in-law and he got t-boned by a drunk driver running a red light and the Maxima was totaled.

So many good memories in that car :(
