The Jake Hunter series has had very weird releases in North America, and this game is no exception. It was essentially shadow dropped onto PSN and the eShop by Aksys last year with barely any announcement - I only found it by searching the latest releases on the store one day, and purchased it the first time it went on sale. This game is apparently a prequel to the entirety of the series, and stars Jake Hunter... er, I mean Saburo Jinguji traveling to New York City to investigate his grandfather's murder. Yes, they ditched the Americanized localization, hence the "Alternate Jake Hunter" in the title, despite the game taking place entirely in America anyway... whatever.

The game itself is really nothing special. Most of the reveals are pretty easy to spot and there isn't anything too spectacular. The game also has many things that really show the developers were not from New York, including the Celsius temperature in a newspaper, the lack of subways in the city, and the map looking not like Manhattan at all (and one of the backgrounds was clearly from Queens). It's a completely average game, which is par for the course with most of the Jake Hunter releases overseas. It's also very short, clocking in at under ten hours. Not a game I would recommend playing unless you really like the series overall.

Dunno what's next, I'm trying to clear a lot of the easier games that I've started and just not done anything with lately so I might go back to one of those. Maybe one of those games I started back in July or something. I am also having fun with Tony Hawk but that platinum will not be for a long time.

azuarc may not know the strength of songs in VGMC, but he conquered the guru in Game of the Decade 2! Congrats!

This game came out more than a year ago and to this day still has only 8 reviews on Steam - not even enough to generate a rating and probably the lowest I've ever seen for anything with an iota of name recognition. I was under the impression that this series had fans!

It doesn't help that the only games from this series that have come out before it were for handheld consoles only, and that the Steam version came out a month later than the PS4 and Switch versions.

The only person I've seen mention this series on this board is KCF, and I don't think he's even played this one yet.

I bought it probably during the same sale as you, but I haven't gotten around to it.

It says that I bought it 2/28 of this year.
