"Good night, Raven," you say.

"Good night, Rorek," she says back.

The two of you turn in for the night and drift off to sleep.

In the morning, you and Raven freshen up again, showering separately this time. You dress in your nicest summer casual as Raven prepares another circle for the portal.

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos... Carazon Rakashas Endere... Vaserix Endrien Azarath... Azarath, Azarath!"

You and Raven fly through dimensions to Azarath, and much closer to Arella's home than last time. You cross a couple streets and walk inside.

"Mother?" Raven calls. "Are you awake?"

"My, I didn't expect you so early," Arella says. "Is it still morning where you are?"

"Yes, actually," you say. "We were hoping to have breakfast with you before heading out on the road. Perhaps..."

"From a drive-thru, just to save time on our trip. To make good time to Las Vegas and check in to our hotel."

"Oh, where are we staying?"

"The Luxor," Raven says excitedly.

"Oh, wow!" Arella says. "That's so luxurious! Then yes, let's hurry."

The three of you travel through the return portal and are back in the room at the lodge. You and Raven finish packing and lead the way out of the lodge to the car.

"Wow, what a great looking car," she says. "Is it yours?"

"No, it's a rental," you say. "We'll have it all the way until California."

"That's wonderful," she says. "Now, I know I've been away from Earth for a long time, but I can't imagine McDonald's stopped being a fast food chain."

"Yes, McDonald's is very much still around," you say. "We can stop at the first one we find."

The luggage is put in the trunk, Raven opens the door for her mother to sit in the back before getting into shotgun and then you start up the engine. You carefully pull out of the parking lot and onto the road. McDonald's isn't too far outside of the Grand Canyon Village, so you pull around and enter the drive thru.

"What would you like, Miss Arella?" you ask.

"It's been so long, I'm not sure what I would like anymore."

"Well, let's all just have..."

"McGriddles. They're great, actually. A sausage patty with two little pancakes for buns, with the maple syrup baked in."

"Oh, that sounds interesting," Arella says. "Yes, I wouldn't mind one of those."

You pull up to the speaker box to give your order of three McGriddles and three medium coffees. You move to the next window, pay $7.86 and pull out of the drive thru.

"Feel free to eat now, Ms. Arella," you say. "We'll be saving time on the road to Vegas by not stopping until we either need gasoline or it's lunch time."

"Eating on a road trip is actually rather nostalgic," she says. "Friends and I did it a lot for Spring and Summer breaks."

"Wow, really?" Raven says. "Road trips to where?"

"Oh, well," Arella says a bit sheepishly. "We were mostly following rock bands that were on tour."

"You like rock 'n' roll, hm?" you say. "What kind?"

"Well it's literally been decades since I've listened to any of it," she says, also sheepishly. "But it was things like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica."

Raven's eyes are wide as she has a big smile on her face. It seems she had no idea her mother was a hard rocker.

"I wonder if there's any of that on the radio," you say.

"Mmm~," Arella says. "This McGriddle is good."

Arella eats hers up rather quickly as you find a station with rock.

"Well now this takes me back," Arella says. "Back in black! I hit the sack! I've been too long, I'm glad to be back. Yes, I'm let loose! From the noose, that's kept me hanging about. I've been looking at the sky 'cause it's gettin' me high. Forget the hearse 'cause I never die! I got nine lives! Cat's eyes! Abusin' every one of them and running wild!

"'Cause I'm back! Yes, I'm back. Well, I'm back~! Yes, I'm back! Well, I'm baaaAAAack! BaaaAAack. Well, I'm back in black~! Yes, I'm back in blaaack~~! OW!"

Raven is smiling even bigger as she looks over her shoulder at her mother rocking out. Arella sees her daughter looking at her and blushes a bit as she sips coffee.

You do your best to carefully eat while driving. It helps that you're clear for quite a long distance both ahead and behind you.

"Well, I'm baaaAAAack!" mother and daughter sing together. "BaaaAAack! Well, I'm back in black~! Yes, I'm back in blaaack~~!"

As you continue driving on, you work out the math in your head that you'll actually arrive in Vegas in time for lunch. Your check-in isn't actually until 1 PM so you could have time to spare.

"I was thinking," you bring up to Raven, "that when we arrive, we check in first. Then we can take our time getting lunch and going shopping."

"Yes, I was thinking the same," Raven says. "We'll be able to relax once we have everything put in our rooms."

"Oh, yes, that is a good plan," Arella says. "Which side of the bed do you prefer, Raven?"

"Um... I dunno," Raven says, a little confused. "From looking at the bed, I usually go to the right side, I guess."

"Alright," Arella says. "I can be on the left."

"Umm... Okay, but why?"

"Well, do the rooms only have one bed or two?"

"Each room has one bed," you say, also a little confused.

"Then that's why we need to decide sides of the bed, Raven," Arella says. "You and I will be sharing a room, and now sharing a bed."

Now you see what she was getting at.

"Oh...!" Raven says, also realizing it for herself. "Uh..."

You see the suspicion on Arella's face as you look in the center rear view mirror.

"Raven," Arella asks, "you and Rorek have been in separate rooms, haven't you?"

"No, not lately..." you say. "It was a little bit of saving on funds, and a little bit of... Wanting to be in closer proximity to each other."

Raven sits very still for a moment, but then seems confused.

"You're not angry?" she asks Arella.

"No, but I'm just a little upset," Arella says. "I don't think you should've been staying in the same rooms at this point, but it's in the past."

"Oh. Alright."

Raven seems like she almost wanted her mother to be more upset about that, but you for one are relieved she isn't.

As you continue on the road and the radio plays more AC/DC, you think of what to do for lunch.

"Thunder!" Arella sings along. "Thunder!"

"Thunder!" Raven joins in. "Thunder! Thunder! Thunder!"

"I was caught, In the middle of a railroad track. Thunder! I looked round, and I knew there was no turning back. Thunder! My mind raced, and I thought, what could I do~? Thunder! And I knew, there was no help, no help from you~! Thunder! Sound of the drums, beating in my heart. The thunder of guns, tore me apart! You've been... Thunderstruck!

"Rode down the highway! Broke the limit, we hit the tooown~! Went through to Texas! Yeah Texas! And we had some fun!"

"We did actually," you and Raven say at almost the same time.

"We met some girls! Some dancers who gave a good time~!"

"Not that," you laugh.

"Broke all the rules! Played all the fools! Yeah yeah they! They! They blew our minds! And I was shaking at the knees! Could I come again pleeease~? Yeah them ladies were too kind! You've been... Thunderstruck! YEAH YEAH YEAH, Thunderstruck!"

Raven and Arella share a laugh as you cruise into Nevade state limits.

After a couple more hours, you arrive in Las Vegas! You find your way to the pyramid shaped Luxor and pull into the parking garage. This is going to be a little complicated with both your car and Shadowfax. You park the Challenger, unhook Shadowfax from the towing hitch and park him in the spot right next to it. You secure the towing hitch inside the Challenger's trunk while you bring out your luggage.

You go out of the parking garage, walk around the corner and up stairs that lead to the main entrance under the recreation of the Sphinx. You check in with the concierge, they help you confirm your reservation, and help you find your way through the truly expansive and amazing main floor.

"Certain elevators go to certain floors," the concierge says. "You're on floor 22 so you'll want Elevator 1B in the southeast corner of the casino level. It's on the left as you come in the main entrance. There is also a level below the casino level we were just on, where you will find the Everything's $10 Boutique, and More the Buffet. To access that level, there is an escalator on this floor, or an elevator found on the mezzanine level."

"Oh, a buffet?" you say. "Well that's perfect for lunch, wouldn't you say?"

"I don't mind," Arella says.

"Thank you," you say to the concierge.

You go to the southeast corner, ride Elevator 1B and see it doesn't go any lower than Floor 22. You arrive and walk to rooms 2208 and 2209. You let the ladies choose which room is theirs, and they go with 2208. You hand Raven 2208's card key and you use 2209's.

The room is rather nice, with a great view of the city from this high up. The single bed is a queen, so that's a lot of room for you, and surely plenty of room for Raven and Arella. You regroup with them in the hallway ten minutes later and head back for the elevator.

"The buffet should be good for variety," you say, "since Ms. Arella has only just come back to earth."

"Yes, I really hope they have some of my old favorites," she says.

You return to the casino level, find the escalator mentioned before and ride down into the lower level of the Luxor. You walk into MORE the Buffet, and see an incredible selection before you. The three of you go to the starting station to grab plates and silverware, and move together to start with the...

In the Latin section, there is Spanish rice, Charro beans, nachos with a lot of cheese on them, and premade tacos in both beef and chicken. You take a couple beef tacos, scoop a good amount of rice and beans, then move on to find a table. You find a nice table for four and sit down, to be joined by Raven and Arella a moment later.

"Wow, you went with quite a bit," you say as you see Arella's plate.

"Well it all looked really nice," she says. "I couldn't help it."

With seats secured, you get yourself a drink from the drink fountain machine. You go with a tall glass of cola and head back to the table. Raven went with the same but Arella chose orange soda.

"So after this, we were hoping to go shopping," you inform Arella. "We'd love to provide you with more clothing for the trip, as well as for when my family meets us in Oregon and we celebrate both the engagement and my birthday."

"Oh, yes, that'd be nice," she says. "Where would we be going?"

"We can look around the city for places," you say. "While it's nice that the Luxor has in-house shops, I don't think the Everything's $10 Boutique will have enough formal wear. We can come back to it for casual clothing, but for whatever gowns, dresses and the like, we should try another shop."

"Sounds good," Raven says. "And let's also look into shows we can watch, maybe something before dinner."

"Ah, yes, of course," you say.

"What were you planning on seeing?" Arella asks.

"Cirque du Soleil," Raven says. "It seems like a really popular thing so why not?"

"That sounds nice," Arella says. "Any other plans?"

"Not particularly," you say. "What would you like to do, Ms. Arella?"

"Well it's rather warm, so perhaps a swim in a pool?"

You feel Raven's eyes on you but you do your best not to feel anything.

"Well that seems fine," you say. "Umm..."

Raven looks at you flatly but you do your best to keep a flat reaction on your face.

"It just makes sense," you explain to her.

"Well, that is true," she says with a slight sigh. "And I think looking around town as opposed in the Everything's $10 place would be better."

"Okay then," you say.

"Oh, Raven, come now," Arella says. "It's not like I'd choose something risque. Though, I do hope you don't wear anything like that, either."

"I don't," Raven says. "I mean, bare shoulders at most."

"Yes, still very tasteful," you say quickly before shoving a big spoonful of beans into your mouth.

"What about two pieces and bikinis?" Arella asks.

"Oh, well," Raven says. "I do have one of those."

"It isn't too showy, is it?" Arella asks.

"I don't think so," Raven says, starting to blush. "I guess I can show you it when we get back to our rooms."

"That would be good."

"It's not that showy, is it?" Raven asks you, though you're still chewing. "The one bikini I have."

You shake your head no.

"Are you going to get anything more?" Raven asks. "Maybe dessert?"
