Because when the series came out that ever other Studio was trying to copy what they did with the loot system, and they still do to this day and spilling into other genres too.

I wonder how different RPGs would have been if they were not trying to copy Diablo.

I would personally call this one of the original gaming design sins that took hold that you can fit alongside with lootboxes.

Not to say Diablo's loot system was terrible (at the time), but what came after is terrible that became copy and paste for years to come.

If anything I liked the way Might and Magic 6 handled their inventory-loot system; it wasn't too repetitive, but it wasn't boring either.

Diablo was originally just a roguelike and then added action RPG combat. The random loot mechanic has been around since the 80s.

For me it was Diablo II that ruined the looting. Diablo 1 was always pretty gear dependent, but at least the stuff you were able to find or buy was actually incrementally useful because there wasn't an unobtainably high standard set by exaggeratedly powerful uniques and runewords. And when that happens, the very best gear starts to become the most common gear even though it should be the rarest, so there's no fun in finding new stuff for yourself. Even if you do decide to play legit, your teammates are gonna mop the floor with all the kills they make because you just can't keep up. At least in D1 the most people got without hacking was a King's Sword of Haste or a Godly Plate of the Whale. Sure it might be boring but at least they didn't usurp the whole experience.

IMO, what sucks are those MMORPG that has low spawn limited giant raid bosses that takes literal hours, hundreds of people who are all competent with that has a low percentage of good drops and when the raid boss is finally defeated everyone fucking cheats to get the drop. People are all willing to do this all the time in WoW and other MMORPGs with no complaints and yet we have people here crying about Diablo looting style.

Zod runes make the socketed item indestructible. A phase blade has no durability stat, meaning that it is already indestructible. So a Zod in a phase blade is redundant.

I played d2 for many years and the best I ever got was an Ist. I was thrilled though because I needed it and of all things to drop from, it came out of some random little common container thing.

To be fair, you can beat most of those games around level 60. The extreme level cap is just for post game content. It's much closer to something like badass ranks in borderlands where it's just there so you have something to keep increasing when you're done with the story.
