he was also HANDCUFFED as well. sitting on the cold ground so it's not like he could just snap the cuffs or kill someone with just his legs.

A medical examiner concluded that Prudes death was a homicide caused by complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint. The report lists excited delirium and acute intoxication by phencyclidine, or PCP, as contributing factors.

It is pretty common for an officer to put a spit guard on a person they suspect could 'spit' at them - and this was during the start of Covid, so I'd say the hood is legitimate. The article later states that the cause of death was asphyxia (suffocation) however, he was apparently on PCP at the time.

This sort of thing should've been investigated more, but it does sound like the officers did as trained - which means it is not the officers' doing that was responsible, but the training or lack thereof they received.

Couple years ago I had a brother with mental health problems run out the house buck naked. The cops caught him, draped him in a blanket him and threw him in an ambulance with little to no fuss. This wasn't during corona so they likely weren't super worried about catching sickness so. I wonder if would it be that simple if those cops got a hold of him today.

Its a mesh material that doesnt effect breathing. He probably asphyxiated due to pressure while he was on his chest if I had to guess.

At times like this, I sometimes think all adults should do a mandatory one year of service as law enforcement, so they have a more accurate idea of what the job entails, the challenges faced, the myths vs reality of real-time response to emergency calls, and such. The same would go for being a waiter in a popular restaurant, armed forces (i.e. military) service member, elementary school teacher, store cashier, computer tech support, and maybe a couple others.

Of course most people will refuse to do it, even if its for their own educational benefit.

Nah, its not meant to be taken seriously.

I dont actually believe in mandating much of anything at all, plus it would be fiscally impractical. Its just one of those thoughts that float around when wondering what it would take to get people to understand something or maybe stop doing something, kind of like installing automated 50 cal machine guns at stop lights would help stop people running red lights but would never be accepted by the public because they like running red lights and the cleanup would be ridiculous.
