Heck, you can tank Gary's venusaur and potentially 1hit with ice beam. Gym type isn't really a good measure of difficulty (and thus starter choice) after Brock. Maybe Misty if you are just insistent on not catching the variety of Pokemon around. But once you get past Brock you always have at least a few Pokemon available to you that resist and/or are super effective against the Gym. I would argue that the wide variety of water type Pokemon available, that Blastoise is actually the least valuable starter. Especially when you consider that Gyarados and Lapras you have given to you. And if you are playing Red you have access to Starmie which is easily the best Water Pokemon of Gen 1. Sure there are also a lot of Grass Types, but Venusaur is clearly the best of them save Eggsecutor, which doesn't become accessible until the Safari Zone. Charizard likewise has little competition. By the 4th you should have acquired an Abra for the poison types) Medium: Squirtle (Type advantage for the 1st, balanced for second and by the 3rd you should have a Geodude or Diglett) Hard: Charamander (Doesnt get a type advantage until 4th gym, and by then you should again; have an Abra) I know theres a lot more to it, but considering you can always trade the other 2 starters over anyways it doesnt matter. --- By Odin's beard! <cite>SolidShadow3 posted [p:943955397] in My Charman...
