I usually don't side with cops, as everyone may have noticed with my comments about George Floyd and the recent dog shooting incident, but this incident is a bit different, at least from a legal perspective even if I don't like how this played out. If Blake really had wrestled himself free from being arrested as a suspect for a violent crime, and then was planning to continue to flee from them in his car, then stopping him was the only way to prevent a highly dangerous police chase with his children in the back seat. As has been the rule for decades, a car is considered a deadly weapon, and therefore there are circumstances where police can shoot drivers before they begin to operate a vehicle if they have reason to believe the suspect the operation of that vehicle may cause injury or harm to the police or other civilians. At least, I'm pretty sure...not 100% However, another way to look at the issue is why couldn't that many cops restrain and arrest him before he made it to his car?
