Who would want to buy cards that become literally unplayable from time to time? Don't they lose all their value

Meanwhile I can still use my good old blue eyes white dragon

They don't get MTG, they just have their own thing going once their sets are out of rotation. There are still many ways to play with your old cards. Fuck, I still play with my cards that came out before Ice Age. If you're going to be the type that goes to game stores to play Draft night and shit, then yeah, you're going to waste all your cards and money. Play Arena.

Play Arena

Even in Arena it eventually happens.

Just a month from now all my Arena decks are going to be crippled, have to find replacement cards for them or massively tweak them, big hassle.

At least there's no money involved, only thing that's preventing me from feeling really bad

Right, you're not using real money. And like I said, you can still play with them, just over in Historic. If you're the type to Draft, then I'm sorry, but that's why I don't like Draft.

BTW, get your ass on there and let's play! I keep asking people to play with me in the topic, but nobody does.

Thats why there are different formats and a big reason why commander is turning into Magic top way to play.

Besides the obvious "they want you to spend more money on new cards and decks" reason, it's far easier to balance and playtest the game around 3-4 sets than 3-4 dozens of sets, especially for TCGs that have been around for a while. I've lost track of just how many times a Yu-Gi-Oh card that's been totally fine and balanced for several years is suddenly made broken as hell because it becomes part of some kind of insane combo that no one could have foreseen at the time it was originally released.

It's not like all formats have set rotation.

That being said, Krosmaga has no set rotation in any form, if you're looking for something like that.

I didn't know you play MTG. We could be playing Arena while we wait for the New Japan shows to start!

Uh, gee, kinda busy at the moment(inb4 then what are you doing on CE inquiries lol), I don't think I can make the time.

I'll be pretty darn free in a couple of days though, so let's play then, I guess?

I don't anymore. I played MTG in real life for a few years (I believe the Zendikar and Scars Of Mirrodin blocks were in standard rotation at the time I quit) and played a couple of the Duels Of The Planeswalkers video games after that, but I haven't followed or cared about the game for years. If I were to ever seriously play a TCG again, it would either be getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh (it's the one I played the longest, plus I still enjoy playing Legacy Of The Duelist here and then) or the very unlikely event that WIXOSS ever got an official English release.

That makes it so much more fun though. Old cards coming back either as new archetypes or because some ridiculous combo is discovered is always fun to see

Games with rotation typically have legacy formats as well. Rotation is for balance, freshness, and money.
