Dems have lost the white vote in the Presidential election since 1964. If they can pick off enough then fine but now it's about exciting the base and the base of the party isn't really white moderates anymore, they're minorities. Getting the black and Hispanic vote out can help not only in the Presidential election but also at the down ballot, especially in the south and midwest. Turnout in certain cities like Atlanta, Milwaukee, Detroit, Miami, etc can change the electoral map. The reason why Democrats don't win in a state like Texas is because Texas is largely a nonvoting state.

Warren ate into Bernie more. The entire race they were each other's 2nd choice until the very end.
