thats too bad. meth is a lot of fun and maybe the focus could help him apply himself a little more & get some kind of research job instead of just teaching, washing cars and manufacturing drugs

part of his character is how he is brilliantly smart but too egotistical or whatever you want to call it, to realize his potential(before he started making the purest meth available)

He was one of the founders of the multi million dollar company Gray Matter.

but he decided to buy out of the company early on for $5,000 when he was hard for money. He ex girlfriend went on to marry Elliot (the other confounded), and Walt was left with a destroyed ego.

I'm guessing he felt that teaching was the best that he could accomplish given his low self esteem, and once he started a family, seems like he was happy taking a job lower than his pay grade because he had to provide for his family

He probably could have if he really wanted to but felt humiliated and hated everybody he used to work with

This, so much.

Like this is the whole show. He eventually has to admit that what he's doing is all for himself. Everything he does is about being the head honcho.

Which you could argue for a while at least has to do with having every bit of power taken away by getting cancer, but as time goes on it's made clear that he's just like that.

Yeah people make jokes about how if Walt was Canadian he wouldn't go crazy but I don't think that's the case. The cancer was just something that pushed him over the edge, but the idea that he has to sell drugs to pay medical bills is a thin excuse that vanishes pretty quickly.

Tbh/tbf I think he even believed it for a short time right at the start.

I don't think he believed it near as long as he said it though.

It's like he needed that excuse to give himself permission to be exactly the person he actually is.

Meth is fun. Meth will also damage your brain by increasing your dopamine levels 6-12 times higher than they can in nature.

In lab experiments on animals, sex will cause dopamine levels to go from 100 to 200 units; cocaine will make the levels go to 350 units. But meth will take those levels all the way to 1,250 units [source: PBS]. The increase in dopamine caused by methamphetamine isn't naturally duplicable. In order to feel that sensation again, a user has to take another dose of meth. Over time, as with any addictive substance, the effects of the drug decrease as the user's tolerance grows, requiring more and more of the drug to reach similar highs.

That isn't your tolerance to just meth, that's your tolerance to happiness. You will want it more than anything else in the world for the rest of your life.

This is probably why Walt (a smart man) doesn't touch his own product.

I don't give a shit what drugs you do but meth very specifically is so potent it will ruin your life. It's more potent than it was even in the 80s where it was made twice as potent. If you're going to do it then do it while you're knowledgeable about what it'll do to you. Fair enough?
