The way they use it is VERY distinct between the words. That's the whole thing. You're just contradicting yourself when you say it's the way they use it. Because the way they use it is reflected directly in what word they use. You'd have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find the words used with reverse intention.

You're defending the use of the word by certain people. Yes, I know the use is very distinct. I said as much myself. I'm not contesting that use. Now, should I go ahead and start using the word, too? No, right? Why shouldn't I use that word? Why, not only because I'm not somebody who has a right to use the word, but also because it's the same as the other word, of course. If it was some other word we could all use it any time we wanted! Yes, I'd look stupid using it, but I wouldn't look racist using it. Because like it or not, it's a racial slur.

This word in particular is very tricky. There aren't many examples like it in English or for that matter in many other languages I don't think. There could be, in theory any racial slur could be "reclaimed" like this. Sometimes they are reclaimed, momentarily to cause some ironic effect or what have you. But you don't have a lot of cases where a world has been reclaimed in such widespread fashion.

Whatever, the point is, it's the same word, and either it's made harmless enough that anybody can say it (and that's not happening any time soon because sadly the other use is still very much around) or really people should try not to say it, but it's more than understandable if some people do sometimes because it's part of the culture they grew up with, or maybe even just part of a culture they're very close to.

Its a word used amongst other PoC. If you are a PoC who grew up in a more lower socioeconomic urban or multicultural community you would 'get it'. Pretty much all PoC that grew up in more urban areas are honorary blacks and use the word casually with no consequences and 'understand' its use. Its only white people who get confused when they see Latinos and Asians use the word like its no big deal and who get confused that they dont get backlash for it as they seem to expect. Its only those same white people who stepped in and deemed it to be bad. They basically gentrified the word.

Man, you walk a very fine line. Be careful you don't tip over someday.

I really dont think they are. I mean, I know a good amount of white people that use the word but theyre using it around black people or in places where a good amount of black people are seeing it. So I wouldnt really say theyre desperate to use it, its just kind of part of their speech. And I really cant think of a single time Ive been hanging out with white friends and the conversation of wanting to say it or trying to think of ways to make it okay have ever been brought up.

One of my really good friends has a guy I buy shoes and shirts off of and that guy will use the word every so often on social media and I know my really good friend is seeing that and is still cool with the guy. Its context and surroundings.

I still dont think white people should be using the N-Word. Just saying that if you grew up in a more urban community, you would realize that it was a common word used amongst minorities (not only blacks) and no one really gave a crap.

It was only bad when white people used it regardless of a or er. It was only white people who stepped in and deemed it bad for all.

Look at the FGC for example. Its probably the only major minority heavy gaming community out there. In recent times a whole bunch of them were getting banned because white people were digging up old dirt of them using the N-word. Pretty much all latinos and asians. They all did apology videos and had the same explanation of how its just how we talked back then, it wasnt a big deal and there was no malice.

That said,in moderns times Id say its outdated to use in a mainstream manner as slang for bro/homies/friends/dude etc. unless you are black. Sure you would still get the PoC im talking about who use the word who grew up in more urban communities. but to label them as racists and having them cancelled years from now for using it is ridiculous if you know the context it is being used

I think everyone should just quit saying it. Lets move on already.
