Liberal arts contains extremely important fields of study. Our economic system doesn't value understanding art, philosophy, history, or anything like that. It values serving capital. And what is the major industries in the US? Serving silicon valley, the military industrial complex, and banking. Even among STEM jobs, AI and generally producing products that simplify their work and reduce the need for employees is reducing their salary at this point. The joke is our economic system being hostile to all working people, not your major.

Its weird, at my uni the liberal arts students were all the overachievers. I remember the liberal arts majors looking down on us plebeian science majors in first year.

it's kinda dumb forcing 18 year olds to make decisions that will affect the rest of their life in such a heavy way

A lot of high schoolers are probably so much more passionate about arts than engineering and shit

Here is the truth - useless degrees such as philosophy, art history (heck, history altogether!), political science, etc, exist for a reason.

look at the UK royal family: prince Williamc prince harry and the like studied stuff like art history, right? Are you getting my point?

the upper tiers of society have their life pretty much solved for them and only need to get a degree. Why bother with a horrible degree that will sap the life away from them such as most STEM stuff? Leave that for the peasants (read: you).

now that I made the point clear, let me clarify these easy degrees are not just for future kings. How many HOT girls that come from a rich family get into stuff such as communications or psychology, join a sorority and secure a rich husband and marry? How many rich white boys also go for communications or political science, join a frat, have the time of their lives, and then end getting a cushy job managing the manager of a bunch of STEM turbo-beards that studied 10X as hard in school, earn 10X less and that most of them will be chewed by the market and spit out when theyre in their 30s because theyre now too old for the field?

we live under a caste society, but people dont see it. The upper castes can afford studying something interesting and easy, their contacts or their parents contacts will get them a cushy job just as long as they get a degree. The lower 90% of people (so, most people) simply shut the fuck up, choose a hard science and even then they will get made fun of for any mistakes such as having a good -but not great- GPA, not getting an internship on time or not becoming a slightly higher level wage-cuck fast enough so theyre not given the boot eventually due ageism

I have two liberal arts degrees, including a post grad degree. I see topics like this all the time on the tech forums I read.

I always ask why do STEM majors worry about us so much? We hardly ever discussed STEM majors hardly at all in our classes. I think what STEM people do is cool, and I respect their work as important to society. Not sure why so many of them think our areas of study are worthless though. People are not automatons. What's the point of a computer or technology if there's no creative forces to put such tech to work and those around to ask if such works are good or ethical?

Here's another hot tip. Not everybody picks a major to get rich. College is not a purely economic function. Knowledge has value in itself regardless of the market forces that decide the size of the check you get.

I agree it's rare. I even went to school with people who are medical doctors now who hated having to learn anything that didn't relate to being a doctor. Though, as you said, the way our education is so expensive no doubt contributes to it. Plus our society values "productivity" and profits over learning for the sake of learning, etc.
