32 y/o Daniel Ocasio from Connecticut was found HANGING in his cell this week after he used a prison-issued FACE MASK given to him to prevent COVID-19 according to authorities!!

He was found with a ligature around his neck by prison guards at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Centre as the ligature had been fashioned from a cloth mask

His death comes amid growing storm over the distribution of face masks among prison population as advocates say they are vital to protecting inmates trapped in virus hotbeds

Guards found his body hanging at 5:07am when they carried a routine tour as he was sitting on his cell bunk with a ligature made from the cloth mask tied around his neck

Staff carried life saving measures to save him but he was pronounced dead by 6am.

He was held in the cell on a 10,000 bond since August 5th on a third degree burglary charge

His death was ruled a suicide

COVID-19 infections have been rife among the american prison population as high populations, cramped conditions and unsanitary environments are ideal for breeding grounds of the virus

7 inmates have been killed with more than 386 corrections employees infected as thousands of non-violent offenders have been released to stop the spread

The distributions of masks given to inmates has sparked fierce debate however as it poses a risk among inmates and staff
