Especially since the performance differential has narrowed dramatically in the past 5 or so years. You can get RTX 2070 level performance in a laptop the size of Macbook and with far better cooling than before. If you're going to pay a premium for gaming performance that beats consoles, at least you get 120+ Hz screens and portability to go with it. Where things get a little ridiculous is the high-end gaming laptop segment. RTX 2070 is almost no major jump in performance for several hundred dollars more, and RTX 2080 is excellent performance but double the price. As far as high-midrange, though, laptops have really nailed it. Especially since laptops have gone hard into the "maximizing frames at 1080p" direction instead of cranking it up to 4K. Those $700 1660ti laptops offer absolutely bonkers 1080p performance for the price.
