Fuck that this hobby is becoming too goddamn expensive.

https://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-flagship-graphics-card-rumored-cost-1399-us/amp/

Depending on how much better the 3060-3080 supers are than a 2080 ti It's probably best to just go with one of them.

1400 for a gpu, 600 for a cpu....jeez that's not including everything else you need to buy to build.

You're going to be able to buy both next gen consoles for the price of a graphics card.

That's the price of PC to keep that edge over consoles. Probably better just to release GPUs in generations so cost isn't stupid.

The question to ask is whether or not the xx90 is the same as the xx80 Ti models of previous gens or if it is a new performance level with the standard xx60/70/80/80 Ti models to be released at staggered dates.

I still wouldn't go THAT far. I keep a PC and a Playstation for sony and timed rockstar exclusives but I'd never AAA game on console-only.

Nobody ever accused or claimed PC gaming was a better deal than console gaming. It's an enthusiast platform and commands higher prices.

That being said, the 3090 is rumored to just be the new "titan" cards in the geforce product stack. the xx70 series was always the breadwinner of the cards historically with most people buying those.

Based on the leaked benchmarks, it's basically the largest jump in performance ever.

The 3060 is supposedly right around RTX 2080 Ti level

I would not buy an RTX 2000 series at all at this point. The price to performance ratio is going to massively heavily favor the 3000 seires.

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/72225/nvidias-mid-range-geforce-rtx-3060-could-beat-flagship-2080-ti/index.html

There's a pretty good chance that the RTX 2070 and 2080 will be grossly overpriced relative to their performance differential with the RTX 3060

Don't forget that the 2000 series was one of the least impressive in terms of performance gains over the 1000 series, so if anything 3000 series is more of a performance correction.

Gaming PCs are horrible investments. High upfront cost, things tend to break, electronics in general devalue harder than a luxury car, outdated fairly quickly.

It's a luxury item. Bad investment but fun can be had if you can afford it.

Idk though, if these consoles can give me 4k/60 it might be years before I consider a gaming pc.

I realize I'm being somewhat contrarian when I say this, but I actually think gaming laptops are a better choice than desktops.

Especially since the performance differential has narrowed dramatically in the past 5 or so years.

You can get RTX 2070 level performance in a laptop the size of Macbook and with far better cooling than before.

If you're going to pay a premium for gaming performance that beats consoles, at least you get 120+ Hz screens and portability to go with it. Desktop gaming is a race to the top that, IMO, doesn't really improve actual gaming all that much.

Well sure, but for what it's worth, the price difference between a good gaming laptop and a good non-gaming laptop is surprisingly narrow.

You can get really well made RTX 2060 gaming laptops for as low as $1000ish, with build quality that easily rivals the $1000 non-gaming segment.

Where things get a little ridiculous is the high-end gaming laptop segment. RTX 2070 is almost no major jump in performance for several hundred dollars more, and RTX 2080 is excellent performance but double the price.

As far as high-midrange, though, laptops have really nailed it. Especially since laptops have gone hard into the "maximizing frames at 1080p" direction instead of cranking it up to 4K. Those $700 1660ti laptops offer absolutely bonkers 1080p performance for the price. They're basically Xbox One X level performance plus a laptop.

I'm leaning towards a 3070 super and sticking th 2060 I have now in my living room PC. This is assuming 3070 super is onlt $500-700 and a 3080 ti isnt 1k.
