Even if by some miracle we ever get Winds of Winter, we're clearly never getting Dream of Spring.

I'm just cutting my losses. If the series ever concludes, maybe I'll check it out again. Not wasting any time or energy anticipating anything, though.

I honestly don't care at this point, if it comes out I'll read it but any bit of excitement I may have had died in the years between Feast and Dance. Then years between Dance and Winds drove over it with a truck then backed up and did it again.

King's book On Writing does a good job outlining his writing process (which is basically just write, write, write with no or very little planning).

It's served him pretty well so far, though it does have its downsides (see: the average King ending).

He has already become filthy stinking rich because of the tv show so he doesn't care anymore. I have never seen an author show such disrespect for the fans who got him to where he is. He has been jerking us around by telling us "next year" for at least the past six years. A lot of people just won't even bother with it at this point. I certainly hope if it ever does come out that no one actually buys it and just gets it from their local library or whatever so he doesn't get the royalties from lots of books being sold. Maybe that will help teach him a lesson.

See I can relate to this, he's probably having a hard time because expectations are through the roof, particularly after how disappointingly the show ended, and that makes it difficult to actually move forward

Look man, I'm as critical of Martin as anyone. As I said in my post I don't care if the book sees the light of day. But I don't know that you can classify a guy who was as successful as Martin before the show, let alone after it, as a "failed joke". Do I think it's insulting to fans to write literally everything but the books his fans want? Sure. Realistically though he doesn't owe them anything.

Sounds like he is actually writing this year, which is promising. I don't think he can finish the story in two books though, and will announce a planned 8th book when releasing Winds

Are you for real? There's a big difference between a fantasy series, and an autobiography of a woman who was murdered.

It's crazy that the show fucked up so badly that it went from a major cultural touchstone to a thing people dont really want to talk about. It made him way more rich and famous, then turned around and wrecked his legacy

Sure and I get that argument, but these people like the guy I initially responded to that are like "reeeeeee fuck that fat bastard robble robble" are so fucking entitled. You paid for a book, you got a book. That exchange is all that is owed. Call it insulting, call it a slap in the face, it's both of those and more to the people who have bought and read all the other books. It still doesn't change the fact that an artist owes you nothing, and you owe them nothing. Even if you bought all the previous books, you don't owe it to him to buy the next one. He doesn't owe you a book.

Yes, but Game of Thrones is probably one of the defining series of the generation, and what got a lot of people into fantasy. That ending, combined with the author croaking before he could finish the series proper, would probably be talked about for a long time.
