For voting, obviously.

AFAIK it's two terms for the same thing. But "absentee" to my mind implies being physically absent from the state at the time of voting while "mail-in" sounds just like a blanket term for any sort of voting that's done outside the ballot place.

In process, no. In technicalities, one is when you won't he at your physical polling place and one doesn't care if you are or not.

In the most literal sense, no. But some people think they are different because the idea is absentee means you have a legit reason and its limited to people who literally can't vote in person. Mail in to these Trump people is going to "overload the mail system" and all this shit, it's not, it will be fine.

Unless it's Florida. Then mail-in is A-OK.

One is rife with fraud and used by Democrats. The other is secure and used by Republicans. How can you tell which is which? Ask a Republican!

Just to clarify then -- when someone says something like, "absent voting is different because you apply for it and show who you are" (translated from Spanish), then they are incorrect, right?

All I had to do for absentee was fill out a form with my personal info and sign it.

How are they defining "show who you are"?

Like, I registered absentee online and they asked for my driver's license number and SSN and some really basic bio info and that's it. Everything was done through a form, no pictures or actual documentation necessary.

I think the main difference that some in the GOP are arguing is that absentee requires you to request the ballot. Meaning it takes an ounce of effort to get to vote. Where as the democrats want to mail out ballots to every registered voter, including those who wouldnt have taken the initiative to request one. Its essentially a low key form of voter suppression. But they will argue that in theory means its more likely that someone who isnt registered accidentally gets one in the mail and could then lead to more voter fraud?

which considering how many stimulus checks got sent to dead people I can kind of see their point. I just dont think thats their actual concern.

Pa is the same for requesting a mail in vote. Then the local office has to approve it.

And the one that Trump says is bad is also the one that he himself has been doing.
